Find out which way we will go with our NBA pick on the Nets/Knicks contest, as both teams are experiencing turbulence in the early going of first seasons under new coaching regimes.

Nets-Knicks Betting Odds
Most books we sampled opened this game with New York favored by a point, the total proffered at around 187. But in the early betting most shops moved Brooklyn to a one-point favorite at shops like 5Dimes, and bumped the total upwards of four points, to 191.

Nets-Knicks: The Match-Up
New York, off this season with a win OVER/UNDER of 41, opened 2-1, with an upset victory at Cleveland. The Knicks then lost their next seven games in a row. New York then beat Denver, lost two more in a row, then beat the 76ers, although everybody does. But the Knicks have since lost their last four in a row, after falling Sunday at home to Miami 86-79.

New York shot just 35 percent from the floor Sunday, made just three of 24 shots from beyond the arc, and came up empty on the spread as a four-point home dog.

At 4-14 New York is a whole 3.5 games ahead of 0-17 Philadelphia in the Eastern Conferences standing.

Brooklyn, off this season with a wins betting total of 42, opened 4-2, including a 110-99 victory over New York back on Nov. 7. The Nets then lost five games in a row, including an 0-3 West Coast road trip and an overtime loss to Milwaukee. Since then Brooklyn owns a victory at Oklahoma City, a loss at San Antonio, a victory over Philly (everybody beats Philly) and, last time out, a 102-84 loss at home Sunday to Chicago.

The Nets have been held to under 100 points in seven of their last eight games.

Brooklyn shot just 37 percent from the floor Sunday, made just two of 14 shots from long range, allowed the Bulls to shoot 49 percent, all in whiffing on the spread as a three-point home dog.

At 6-9 Brooklyn owns the ninth-best record in the East.

Nets-Knicks, By the Numbers
New York ranks 20th in the league in FG shooting at 45 percent, seventh in 3-point shooting at 37 percent and 13th in FT shooting at 77 percent. The Knicks also rank 14th in FG defense, allowing foes to shoot 45 percent, 24th in rebounding at -2.5 per game, and own a 21/14 assist-to-turnover ratio, which is about average.

Brooklyn ranks 15th in FG shooting at 45 percent, 22nd in 3-point shooting at 33 percent but fourth in FT shooting at 80 percent. The Nets also rank 17th in FG defense at 45 percent, 21st in rebounding at -2 per game, and own a 20/15 A/TO ratio, which could use improvement.

Nets-Knicks Recent History
Brooklyn took the first meeting of this season series 110-99 back on Nov. 7 at the Barclays Center. The Nets shot 51 percent from the field that night, made 14 of 24 shots from long range, held the Knicks to just 41 percent shooting and covered the spread as six-point favorites in NBA odds.

That game played OVER its total of 193.

Last season New York took three of four games from Brooklyn, with the totals splitting 2-2.

Nets-Knicks Betting Trends
Brooklyn is 6-9 on the totals this season, as Nets games have averaged 199 points.

New York is 9-8 on the totals, as Knicks games have averaged 192 points.

Injury Update
New York F Carmelo Anthony has missed recent action with a sore back, but he played Sunday and scored 31 points. But backs can be tricky, and anyone thinking about taking the Knicks might want to check and be sure 'Melo is playing.

Nets-Knicks Free Pick
Brooklyn beat New York rather comfortably three weeks ago, and we don't see much reason to expect anything different Tuesday night. So we like the Nets in this spot.
