Find out why we are backing a high scoring matchup with our NBA picks in tonight's meeting between the Boston Celtics and the New York Knicks.

Let’s take a closer look at the NBA odds for this Eastern Conference matchup at the TD Garden, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.

A decent stretch

New York is 6-15 SU through 21 games of the 2013-14 regular season, but it has won and covered the number in three of its last five trips to the hardwood.

The Knicks will have to continue building on their recent momentum without the services of starting point guard Raymond Felton, who is expected to miss two to three weeks with a hamstring injury.

NBA handicappers will find that the franchise is 1-10 SU and 3-8 ATS as an underdog this season.

Going in the wrong direction

Boston has followed up a three-game winning streak by losing its last two affairs, including a 96-88 setback to the Los Angeles Clippers as five-point home underdogs Wednesday, while going UNDER the betting total of 195.

The Celtics are still figuring things out under first-year head coach Brad Stevens on both ends of the floor, but they have five projected starters averaging in double figures.

Carmelo

The Knicks are 24th in the league in averaging 93.8 points per game, as the basketball often starts and stops in the hands of forward Carmelo Anthony, who sits second in the NBA in scoring 25.6 points a contest.

Anthony is the only player who has led his team in points (either outright or tied) in every game this season, while he also sits 11th in grabbing 9.6 rebounds a game.

Playing as favorites

The Celtics weren’t expected to tip off as favorites very often in the early going this season, but they’ve gone 4-3 SUATS in that role in seven opportunities.

It’s important to point out that the underdog has grabbed the cash in four of the last five meetings in this series, while the UNDER is on a 9-1 run.

Prediction

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total with their NBA picks, as the UNDER is 6-2 in the Knicks’ last eight road games.

New York is giving up just 93.8 points away from home this season, while it will continue to struggle on the offensive end due to Felton’s injury.

NBA Pick:  Under 190.5
