For Friday night's NBA pick I'm looking for an up-tempo game between the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns. The total line is set pretty reasonably but let's review the NBA odds first.

Betting Odds Overview
NBA odds makers have this game on the total at 200.5 which seems just about right. For one of my NBA selections I'm going to take over this total as I like for the Pistons to run up and down the court with Phoenix.

Detroit Pistons
Detroit is averaging 94.5 points per game, shooting 38.6% from the field, and 30.6% from beyond the arc. On these numbers alone you would think this total, no matter how decent Phoenix has been offensively, would be set at least a few points under 200. But the odds makers in my opinion have it right. Although Detroit has not shot the ball well what they do is push tempo averaging 90 shots per game which ranks fourth in the NBA. Phoenix is not that stout of a defense so I look for Detroit to have a shot at their highest score total of the year.

Defensively the Pistons are allowing 92.2 points per game, 43.8% shooting from the field, and 28.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Typical Stan van Gundy style is put up the three and defend the three, which are two things they have done pretty well (putting up but not so much going in). Tonight on the road though I think they will struggle little bit against the Phoenix team that has some decent offensive weapons and has been scoring at a pretty high rate.

Phoenix Suns
Phoenix is averaging 104 points per game, shooting 42.9% from the field, and 34.6% from beyond the arc. Percentagewise there are middle tiered ranked offense but like Detroit they get up and down the floor and are averaging 89 field-goal attempts per game which ranks sixth in the NBA. I like for Eric Bledsoe and Brandon Knight to continue playing at a high level and put a lot of pressure on Detroit defensively around the perimeter and in the lanes.

Defensively Phoenix is allowing 98.4 points per game, 44.2% shooting from the field, and 36.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Not good numbers by a long shot but they have been efficient in making teams play at their tempo and having some success doing it. They don't do anything great on defense but they do defend the paint pretty well, tonight though that could pose some difficulty going against Andre Drummond.

You probably would not have guessed but these two teams rank first (Detroit) and second (Phoenix) in total rebounds per game. What that tells me is that these two teams play hard on both ends of the floor because getting rebounds is part position and part heart. Expect a really up-tempo game with a lot of shots going up and enough finding the bottom of the hoop to get over the total. For one of your NBA picks I suggest taking OVER in this matchup.

NBA Picks: Over 201 at Bet365

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":2882542, "sportsbooksIds":[1096,19,93,92,238,349], "LineTypeId":3, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]
