Both the Detroit Pistons and the Chicago Bulls come into today’s contest off of a couple of losses. Both teams are trying to get back on track and odds makers have made Chicago a small home favorite in this matchup. Can Detroit add to Chicago’s recent woes?

Detroit Pistons

Detroit has lost two games in a row by double digits and has dropped three out of their last four games. Far from an offensive juggernaut, Detroit has relied on their defense this year to pick up wins but their lack of scoring the ball has really hurt them over this past week. Currently Detroit is averaging 98.9 points per game which rank 25th in the NBA, however, they are giving up just 96.9 on the other side of the ball which ranks second. For the most part, the Pistons have been subpar and rank in the middle league in most scoring categories ranking 15th, 17th, and 18th in overall, three-point, and two-point shooting percentages respectively. They’ve already handled Chicago once this season and I expect for them to step up tonight and not only cover the small number but get a crucial road win. Defensively Detroit has been a monster this year ranking in the top five in most defensive categories highlighted by ranking fourth in opponent shooting efficiency and third in opponent three-point shooting percentage allowing just 33.5% from beyond the arc. I like how they matchup with Chicago, and although the Bulls are desperate for a win I don’t think they get one tonight.

Chicago Bulls

Chicago has lost three games in a row highlighted by losing back-to-back games to the Milwaukee Bucks. They have not been playing well at all recently and surprisingly it is been their offense that has struggled. Across the board, Chicago ranks as one of the worst offensive teams in the NBA ranking second to last in effective field-goal percentage, and dead last in three-point shooting percentage. They also rank in the bottom five in most offense categories. This is not a good recipe for them tonight against a stout Detroit defense. On the other side of the ball, they have been decent ranking third in the league in opponent shooting efficiency. Still, they are allowing opponents to shoot almost 45% from the floor which ranks them and about the middle of the league. Overall Detroit is the better team in my opinion and it is only because Chicago’s at home that they have been made the small favorite. I don’t think that will be enough tonight.

NBA Odds

Oddsmakers have made Detroit a +3 underdog across the board and for my NBA pick I will back them in the spot. Although backing Chicago to break their losing streak is tempting they don’t match up very well with Detroit so at the worst look for this game to go to the wire.
