A few weeks back Toronto came into Detroit and handle business beating the Pistons in an ugly defensive battle. With the Raptors on the second leg of a back to back, oddsmakers have come out making Detroit a small favorite to get some revenge tonight. Can Detroit get a win and delay playoff elimination?

Toronto Raptors

After playing last night in Indiana, Toronto travels once again to take on Detroit as they try to improve their Eastern conference seeding. On the season Toronto has focused more on the offensive end and it has paid dividends as they rank just around the top 10 in most offensive categories highlighted by shooting 46.4% from the field which ranks them ninth. They haven’t lost so much on the defensive side as long as they are able to control the pace, however, they do ranks 17th in the league in opponent shooting efficiency.

In their last matchup against Detroit in Detroit, I thought Toronto was quite fortunate to win that game as they outscored the Pistons 27-9 in the fourth quarter to win the game by 12 points. I believe tonight will be a bit of a reversal of fortunes with Detroit coming off of rest and Toronto on the second leg of a back to back. With Kyle Lowry still out I think odds makers are right to make Detroit the small favorite and I will fade Toronto looking for Detroit to pull off the small victory.

Detroit Pistons

I’m a bit shocked at how poorly Detroit has been all season as I’m a big fan of Stan Van Gundy. The most shocking aspect is how poorly been on the offensive side ranking 27th and 30th in the NBA in effective field-goal percentage and shooting efficiency respectively. That is not the sign of an SVG team and they will need to make some personnel changes in order to be more successful next year. Despite those poor numbers, I think there is good value in backing them tonight because they should be able to push the pace how they like at home averaging 88.5 attempts per game which ranks them second in the league while dropping 39.7 of those ranking them eighth.

Defensively they have been better-than-average most of the season ranking ninth in the league in both opponent field goals attempted and made per game, as well as ranking 14th in opponent shooting efficiency. Although the season has been a letdown for Detroit, look for them to come out with the win tonight.

Toronto Raptors vs Detroit Pistons

Oddsmakers have made Detroit a -1.5 favorite and for my NBA pick, I will back them in this spot. With Toronto playing their second game in two nights and Detroit coming off rest, along with the fact Detroit will be looking for a bit of revenge, I think there is value in backing the Pistons.
