We split a pair of picks on Thursday’s short slate thanks to the Lakers coming to play. Either way we are still just under the .500 mark and heading into Friday’s slate of NBA Odds, I am on a mission to get you a pair of winners!

76ers vs. Cavaliers

The sky is officially falling right now for the Cavaliers. They lost again last night to the Bulls and now they have a chance to turn things around tonight with a game against the tanking Sixers. Even coming off the back to back, you have to expect the Cavs to come out firing in this one and I think that leads to a faster paced and higher scoring game.

On the second night of a back to back, the Cavs are just 8-8 cashing the over. However, the Cavs are 3-1 cashing the over on no rest since the All Star Break and considering they have allowed over 112 points per game in their last five, I like the chances of this one to go over.

Not only do we have a pissed off Cavs team coming into this one on no rest, but a bigger factor might be Robert Covington set to miss this one for the Sixers. Covington has played well this season and the fourth year sharpshooter has had some big games.

However, the biggest thing the Sixers will miss without Covington tonight is his defense. His shooting is great when he is hitting shots, but without Covington on the floor this season, the Sixers are allowing 112.3 points per 100 possessions compared to 105.9 with him on the court.

Covington was the only real semblance of a guy able to stop James and without him I expect Lebron and company to send a message in this one. I’m looking for a final score of about 120-110, so add the over to your NBA Picks tonight.

Spurs vs. Thunder

I understand all the hype around Russell Westbrook for MVP. While he was not my first choice a month ago, he has been so impressive that it’s hard not to lobby voting for him. However, in tonight’s game against the Spurs, while Westbrook may still have a big game in route to potentially averaging a triple-double this year, but the rest of the Thunder crew may have trouble scoring.

In their first two meetings this season, the final scores either ended just over or under 200 points. The shooting was awful and defense ruled the day. Not too may people realize that even with their fast pace of play, the Thunder have been very good on defense this season.

OKC is allowing teams they play to score just 107.6 points per 100 possessions, which ranks them just inside the top 10 teams in defensive efficiency. The Spurs have a DRtg of 103.5, which is the best mark in the league.

Even if this one is played a bit faster than the Spurs like, it will end up as a defense style game before the third quarter is over. That should lead to too few points for the total in this one.
