We’ll be taking a look at tonight’s NBA contest between Orlando and Charlotte. Take the time to read our informative NBA betting preview article which concludes with a selection on the total.

Hornets in Orlando on Saturday
Two NBA Southeast Division rivals will clash tonight when the Orlando Magic hosts the Charlotte Hornets at 7:05 PM ET. The NBA betting odds at BetOnline has Orlando as a 4.0 point favorite, and the posted total is 189.0. This will be the third meeting of the season between these teams. Orlando was 2-0 SU&ATS in the first two, and both of those games took place in Charlotte.

Disappointing Season thus far for Charlotte
The Charlotte Hornets enters tonight having gone 0-5 SU&ATS in their previous 5-games, and lost those contests by an average of 11.6 points. When examining their numbers during this recent 5-game slide it’s easy to detect why they’ve struggled. Charlotte has averaged just 86.6 points and shot a woeful 36.6% from the field during that 5-game span, and four of the five contests went under the total. Things won’t get any easier tonight, this will be the Hornets third game in the last four days, and the fifth in the last seven. After making the playoffs a season ago, the Hornets have began the 2014-2015 NBA campaign by going a dismal 13-23. The Hornets are shooting just 42.7% from the field, and allowing opponents to convert on 46.1% of their field goal attempts. A bit of positive news comes in that regard. Charlotte will be facing an opponent (Orlando) tonight that’s gone 0-8 ATS during the past three seasons, when facing a team that shoots 43% or less from the field, and allows opponents to make 46% or more of their field goal attempts.

Orlando needs more Magic
Tonight will be the finale of a three game in five day home stand for Orlando. Unfortunately they lost each of the first two, halting any momentum established by winning three of their previous four prior to beginning of this home stand. The Magic have scored 100-points or more in only 9 of their 36-games (25%) on the season. As a matter of fact, when Orlando scored 100-points or more this season, they’ve gone 9-0 ATS, and won 8 of those 9 straight up. The good news for the Magic is that they’ll be facing an opponent (Charlotte) tonight that averages just 22 free throw attempts per game. They’ve gone a very profitable 13-5 ATS this season versus opponents that average 24 or less free throw attempts per contest.

Final Analysis
The books seem unfazed by the fact that the first two meetings of the season between these teams both went over the total, and averaged 200.5 points scored per contest. This total is on the low side of the NBA average, and for good reason. My lean is toward under the number, and I’ll be using that as one of my NBA picks on Saturday.
