Without Steph Curry, the Warriors have not missed a beat in the playoffs. Beating the Blazers in game one, odds makers have them a strong favorite in game two. Can Portland make it?

The NBA Odds have made Portland a +10 underdog like at Bookmaker -110. For one of my NBA picks I will back the Trailblazers to hang in much better with Golden State in this second game of the series. The Warriors were lights out the first half of game one but I expect Portland to make some good adjustments to stay closer tonight.

Portland Trailblazers
In game one Portland shot just 40.2% from the field and 32.3% from distance but had 46 points in the paint. They really got blitzed that first half finding themselves down by 20 after the first quarter and simply never recovered. Although that was the case they still battled and had a solid second half outscoring the Warriors 55-53 but of course that didn’t mean much considering the game was pretty much in hand for Golden State.

On the season the Trailblazers shot 36.7% from distance which ranked them fourth in the league but in game one they couldn’t get any rhythm going just 10-31 from distance. I expect for their shooting to improve in this second game and for C.J. McCollum to knock down a few after going just 0-4 from beyond the arc. Defensively they had trouble stopping the league’s best scoring team but I anticipate they will make things a bit more challenging for Golden State in two areas, assists and rebounding.

Golden State had 27 assists in game one which is actually a bit below their season average and Portland has been one of the best teams in the league in opponent assists per game. As well, although the Trailblazers got out rebounded 61-51 they are actually the better rebounding team statistically so look for them to have a better night on the glass.

Golden State Warriors
In game one the Warriors shot 47.3% from the field and 35.5% from distance with Klay Thompson going for 37 points. Although they have looked good without Curry I believe in this game two not having him out there will start to affect them against a talented and well coached Portland team. Golden State came out on fire which is what they do sometimes at home and when that happens you might as well just forfeit by halftime.

For this game two I don’t expect them to come out nearly as hot and for Portland to make a much better game of it from start to finish. When we look past the shooting percentages Golden State starts to look a little more human allowing Portland 26 assists which is well above their average as well as only forcing nine turnovers out of the Trailblazers.

Also, Portland got up 97 attempts which is a good pace for them and across the stat sheet there really wasn’t a ton of disparity after the overall offensive percentages. The Trailblazers can play better and this game has them hanging in from start to finish written all over it.
