Streak-snapped, back to back
Even though they are still three games back of the Spurs for the #1 overall seed in the West, they snapped San Antonio’s streak last night with a 106-94 win at home. Manu Ginobli did not play for the Spurs due to rest, however the Thunder would probably still have won last night with they way they were playing.
Tonight, the NBA Odds have the Thunder as road underdogs of +2 ½, with a total of 211 points. Playing on the second night of a back to back hasn’t been much of an issue for the Thunder so far this season, but tonight because they are playing on consecutive nights, the Thunder will likely be without the services of Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook’s absence is likely going to open things up for the point guards from Houston, Jeremy Lin and Isaiah Canaan. If these two can step up their games, along with James Harden, the Thunder are going to have a tough time stopping them on a second half of a back to back.
Even though the Rockets will likely be without their big man, Dwight Howard again, they cans till put up points. Plus, the Rockets likely being without Howard again is really going to limit their defense against the Thunder. Kevin Durant will have free roam of the paint when he wants to duck into it, and even though Omer Asik is the best back center in the NBA, Durant is on another planet.
The Sharp Pick
Even though he is listed as day to day, Howard is not expected to play tonight. With this news just breaking this morning, I think the spread is a no play tonight on either side. However the total looks like a great choice for your NBA picks here, especially without the services of Howard in the paint.
With no Howard, the Thunder should be able to score easily down low, even with Asik in instead. On the second night of a back to back, the Thunder have scored well this season, cashing the over at 8-5 on no rest. At only 211, this total is primed for another rover bet.
Despite the fact that in eight of their last nine meetings, the total has gone under, some other trends are pointing the way of the over. Not only are the Thunder good on the second night of a back to back, but the few times they have been road dogs this season, the Thunder have been good at cashing the over, at 7-4.
The Rockets have obviously been good cashing the over at home this season, and as home favorites, they have cashed the over at 20-15. On top of that, the Rockets have cashed the over in eight of their last ten games overall, and in all five of their last five home games.
I expect a fast paced game tonight without Westbrook and Howard in for their respective teams, and I see the total going over.
My Pick: OVER 211
