Is it possible that the wrong team is favored on NBA odds as the Spurs and Cavaliers meet tonight? Read this article to find out our NBA pick for this contest.

S.A. Spurs vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (-2-) 7:05 ET ESPN
These teams are well down the playoff queue in their respective conferences. Cleveland is just 5-4 SU, and 4-5 ATS. They are trailing Toronto, Washington and Chicago. San Antonio, the defending NBA Champions, is currently tied for 6th place in the West. Quality teams such as Memphis, Houston, Golden St., Portland and Dallas are all ahead of the Spurs. Though each of these teams is off to mediocre starts, it would be no surprise if this was a preview of the NBA Playoff final.

Such would be an intriguing post-season matchup for the LeBron led Cleveland Cavaliers. After all, it was these Spurs who defeated LeBron’s previous employer, the Miami Heat, in last year’s NBA finals. It actually was not much of a contest with the Spurs winning 4 games to 1 with the average margin of their victories at 18 PPG. With that playoff defeat, LeBron has taken his considerable talents back home.  It is with Cleveland that these talents will merge with PG Irving and interior force, Kevin Love, to form Cleveland’s version of the Big 3.  It is a growing process as indicated by the results. The Cavs began the year at 1-3 SU ATS. The lone victory was against Chicago in Game 2, their only quality win of the year. They appeared to have turned the corner with 4 consecutive victories, albeit Denver, New Orleans, Boston and Atlanta. But on Monday night, they regressed with a 106-97 loss to Denver. My opinion is that they are not prepared, with their 104 PPG defense to face the defending champs.

San Antonio returns virtually intact. In the early going, they have missed complementary pieces, Splitter, Mills, and Belinelli, all out with injury. But, the Big 3 returns intact with familiar names like Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. They are joined by last year’s finals MVP, Kawhi Leonard. Like Cleveland, the Spurs began slowly at 2-3 SU, 0-5 ATS. But a pair of quality road wins vs. the Clippers and Golden State has keyed a 4-1 SU ATS surge.  Well rested, with no game tomorrow, I expect HC Popovich to not hold anyone back. Must note the huge difference on the defensive end of the floor with the Spurs team that is allowing just 92 PPG, which is tied with Memphis and Houston for the best defense in the league!

The bottom line in this contest is that in my opinion the wrong team is favored. The Spurs are a proven winning entity, while Cleveland is at the beginning stages of learning that lesson. For your NBA picks look for the Spurs to be focused against this opponent in what may be an NBA Finals preview.
