Any time we preview a New Orleans Pelicans game here at SBR, we somewhat just have to take it on faith that Pels star Anthony Davis will play unless it’s the second of a back-to-back. Of course, Davis won’t play in the fourth quarter because the club his limiting his minutes to help ensure Davis stays healthy ahead of trading him this summer. Oh, and the Pelicans want to lose as much as possible to boost their 2019 draft status.

While New Orleans has squat to play for, Utah is sitting sixth in the West but could easily still climb as high as third. Don’t see a scenario where the Jazz miss the playoffs barring injury to Donovan Mitchell and/or Rudy Gobert.

These teams have met just once this season – they play again Wednesday in New Orleans – and the Jazz were 132-111 winners in the Big Easy way back on Oct. 27. Gobert had 25 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks; Ricky Rubio 28 points, 12 assists and six rebounds; and Donovan Mitchell 22 points. Davis was out with an elbow injury. Nikola Mirotic led the Pels with 25 points but had only 10 after the first quarter. He’s now in Milwaukee. Elfrid Payton left injured in the third quarter.

Utah has won eight of the past nine overall in the series.

Donovan Mitchell scored 46 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo had 43 points in the @utahjazz-@bucks matchup. In the last 10 years, the only other regulation game (excluding OT games) in which opposing players each scored 43+ was Durant/Lillard in GSW/POR in Feb. 2018. @EliasSports pic.twitter.com/a6ildD7y0P

Bet Pels Or Jazz ATS?

Utah got a great win Saturday, its fourth in a row, rallying from 17 down in the fourth to beat the NBA-best Milwaukee Bucks 115-111 – it obviously helped that the Bucks played the night before at the Lakers. Mitchell had a career-high 46 points and is averaging 33.0 points since the All-Star break. He leads all second-year players in scoring this season at 23.3 ppg.

Derrick Favors played perhaps his best game of the season with 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds. Rubio was back after missing a game with a hamstring injury and was limited to 20 minutes. Gobert wasn’t good with just five points.

New Orleans sat Davis in the second of a back-to-back on Saturday in Denver and pulled off the 120-112 upset regardless, despite trailing by as many as 19. It was the biggest blown lead of the season for the Nuggets. Jrue Holiday had 29 points and Julius Randle 28. Randle is averaging 25.6 points since the break. Also out was guard E’Twaun Moore due to a thigh injury. The win snapped a four-game road losing streak for New Orleans.

It’s bit of a clash in styles here as New Orleans is ranked third in scoring (116.0 ppg) and fifth in pace (103.53). Utah is 14th in pace (100.81) and sixth in defense (106.7 ppg). Utah is even better defensively at home, so that’s why we like the "under."

The Massey Ratings project a 117-109 Jazz win. We tend to agree, with the Pels covering late.

  • Pelicans are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games vs. a team with a winning record.
  • Road team is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings.
  • "Under" is 4-0 in Jazz’s last 4 Monday games.
  • "Under" is 5-2 in Pelicans’ last 7 games following a win.
