Sportsbooks have Memphis as a +1½ home dog against New Orleans on Wednesday night, but a total that’s all over the board might be the best play in the divisional showdown.

Since December 23 -- the past seven games for each of these teams -- the Pelicans and Grizzlies have put up similar numbers. They both rank inside the top 10 in offensive efficiency in that stretch, and both are giving up more than 109 points per 100 possessions.

That’s why I’m not surprised to see this total anywhere from 211 to 213 for Wednesday night's game. However, for the sportsbooks who are still dangling around the low end of that on the NBA odds board, I think an over wager is the way to go.

In their last seven games these teams are posting about 112 points per 100 possessions. While Memphis is by no means a fast-paced team, they have been playing a little quicker during this recent stretch. And although Anthony Davis is doubtful for New Orleans in this game, if the pace is quick enough from Memphis' side I like our chances of getting the over to play in our NBA picks.

The Grizzlies might be re-energized by returning to Beale Street, but the Pelicans will be tough to stop even if Davis sits. New Orleans will look to push the ball against the defense and make things tough on a team that has not played in five days.
