With six games on the card today, there are a ton of games to choose from on the SBR Odds board with lines from the world’s top online sportsbooks. I’ve got my eye on a few first half looks that I’m looking to parlay so let’s take a closer look at these games.

Toronto Raptors vs. Miami Heat

Monday, August 3, 2020 – 8:00 PM EDT at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL

Raptors First Half Over Heat

The Toronto Raptors looked impressive against the Los Angeles Lakers but nothing about that result surprises me. Since winning the NBA championship last June, nothing has been able to slow the Raptors down, not even the departure of Kawhi Leonard. Now I'm not silly enough to say that Kawhi leaving doesn't matter, what I am saying is most people expected them to fall off drastically after he left. Instead, they've shown the rest of the NBA that they are a force to be reckoned with in this league.

Make no mistake about it, the Raptors truly believe they can repeat as champions and they will not take their foot off the gas in any game. As for this particular spot, the NBA betting lines that I see available for this game have me all over the Raptors first half here. The Miami Heat looked very impressive against the Nuggets in their opening game which is why I expect maximum effort from the Raptors to start the game. The first half line at BookMaker for this game is Raptors -1.5 (-110) (Visit our Bookmaker review).

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Utah Jazz

Monday, August 3, 2020 – 8:00 PM EDT at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL

Lakers Will Take Our Frustrations on Jazz

The Los Angeles Lakers will be looking to bounce back in a big way against the Utah Jazz. They didn't just lose to the Raptors, they were embarrassed and I expect that game served as a wake-up call of sorts. LeBron James does not have time to play games and his post-game demeanor leads me to believe that his team will come out with an extra level of focus here. While I am concerned with how the Lakers deal with Donovan Mitchell. The Lakers don't really have the personnel at the moment to deal with dynamic scoring guards like Mitchell.

That being said, the Jazz have a much bigger problem than that. Nobody on their roster can come close to stopping Anthony Davis. Davis can face up and take Rudy Gobert off the dribble which is not where Gobert wants to be defensively. On top of that, if Davis can keep Gobert on the perimeter, he will not be available to protect the paint. I expect LeBron James to take full advantage of that considering there isn’t really anyone on Utah's roster that matches up well with him either.

I also want to point out that I have not been impressed at all with what I've seen from Utah. They were absolutely terrible against Oklahoma City and even though they won against Memphis, that was far from an impressive performance. The Jazz simply aren't right at the moment and the Lakers aren't exactly a team you want to be facing when you're trying to figure things out. The Lakers are -3.5 (-112) in the first half at Bookmaker (Visit our Bookmaker Review).

My Pick:

A first half, two-team parlay with the Raptors and Lakers pays +260. I'm confident that two of the top four teams in the league can handle their business in the first half. The Raptors will have a tougher time than the Lakers but both teams are in championship or bust mode which is why I am confident that they come out with the right mentality to start their respective games.

Both of their opponents have the ability to keep things close which is why I stayed away from the full game lines. I'm betting the spots here and I expect the Raptors to bring that defensive intensity from the opening tip whereas I think the Lakers will be looking to do the same in their game. The Lakers defense will cause the Jazz all sorts of problems while on the Raptors side, I think their personnel matches up perfectly with Miami while also having a deeper bench.

2 Team Parlay Pays +260

  • 1st Half Raptors -1.5 (-110)
  • 1st Half Lakers -4 (-110)
