The Pacers dribble into Toronto tonight to take on the Raptors in what could be a preview to an opening round series in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Let’s review the NBA odds in this one and cash a ticket.

Indiana Pacers (42-36 SU, 39-39 ATS)
The Pacers are in a virtual tie with the Pistons for the seventh and eighth seeds which means the team that comes away on top at season’s end will most likely get the Raptors in the first-round versus King James and the Cavaliers. Though the Raptors are no picnic it would be a less daunting task than trying to upset Cleveland. A Pacers victory tonight would not only inch them closer to securing the seventh spot but it would make a statement to their potential opening round opponents by winning in Toronto.

Indiana has reeled of three consecutive wins and covered the NBA odds in two of them with victories over Philadelphia, New York and Eastern Conference leaders Cleveland. In fact, it was Wednesday night when the Pacers, installed as four-point home chalk, welcomed the LeBron-less Cavs to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue decided to give the four-time MVP a night off and it proved to be a short-term loss for what he is hoping will be a long-term gain. The Pacers made 16 buckets from downtown and Paul George scored 29 as Indiana rolled to a 123-109 victory.

Toronto Raptors (52-26 SU, 41-36-1 ATS)
The prospects of the Raptors catching Cleveland for the top spot in the East are dimming quickly as they are now 3 ½ games out with just four games remaining on the regular season slate. It appears Toronto will have to settle for second and look to continue what has been a successful season. The team is currently 14th in scoring with an average of 102.5 and 5th on defense, holding opponents to 98.4 points per game. The Raptors have lost two of their last three heading into tonight’s contest with Indiana.

Last night Toronto flew into Atlanta as five-point road dogs and failed to cover for all those who backed them in their NBA picks. It was the first time in four opportunities that the Hawks were able to knock off the No. 2 seed this season. When the dust settled it was Atlanta’s defense that won the day as the Hawks captured a 95-87 victory in front of the home crowd. Toronto welcomed back DeMarre Carroll who has been sidelined with a knee injury for a total of 41 games. Carroll entered the game in the second quarter and finished with five points in 14 minutes of play. The six-year forward out of Missouri averaged 11.7 and 4.8 rebounds in the 23 games he played before getting hurt.

Betting Analysis
Toronto has taken two of three against the Pacers this season with the most recent meeting culminating in a 101-94 victory in Indiana back on March 17th. The only game in Toronto happened in October when the Raptors dribbled away with a 106-99 home victory as five-point chalk. The teams are back at the Air Canada Centre tonight where Toronto has gone 30-9 straight up and 21-18 ATS while the Pacers have an 18-21 straight up road mark and 20-19 ATS.

The Raptors don’t have nearly as much to gain in this outing as does Indiana who is trying desperately to separate themselves from Detroit for the seventh playoff spot and a series with these same Toronto Raptors. In addition, the Raptors are coming off a grueling loss to the Hawks last night and may be lagging tonight. The Pacers have been playing well as of late, winning their last three and the books are already sensing a Toronto letdown by installing the road team as a slight favorite. We believe their instincts are right.
