Sometimes, NBA handicappers will look at lines and just kid of say 'Huh?' Such is the case today in Pacers vs. Hornets, as one of the hottest teams in the league right is being offered at -2 at home.
Back in the Arsenio Hall days, looking at the NBA odds for this match up might have been one of those things that make you go, “Hmm?” Sure the Hornets are off a back-to-back after losing to the Sixers, but that only makes them 12-5 since the beginning of 2015… only.
Enter the Indiana Pacers fresh off a big upset of hotter than hot in Cleveland (pun intended). With Hill back it seems they might seem to actually start producing some quality wins, add in the rumor that Paul George may return before the end of the year and the Pacers could start getting extra motivated. Winning two in a row is nothing to get too excited about, with them you know what you are going to get… a well coached defensive minded team that plays hard. It seems as well with George Hill healthy they are primed to play their best basketball of the season.
Statistically speaking these teams match up well. They are about dead even in every category from field goal percentage to point differential. The difference tonight might be as simple as a boost of confidence flowing through the Pacers, but there are other factors why I like Indiana tonight for my NBA pick. In that last time these two played the Pacers played arguably their worst game of the year shooting 9% from beyond the arc (not a typo) and turning the ball over 20 times. This game most likely won’t be as ugly as the last one, at least let’s hope not, and I anticipate the possibly rejuvenated Pacers to take care of the ball a lot better and get a much needed win against a slightly weary Hornets team.
With the small line I think we have the books getting the public to back the overall “hotter” team. But with the even match-ups, even stats, better coach (in my opinion), catching Charlotte off a back to back, with Hill back, plus revenge I will back the Indiana Pacers as a small money line dog.
