Indiana just beat Boston by a bucket a week ago; can the Pacers could pull off a repeat performance, and perhaps a cover against the NBA odds, Wednesday night?
In early surfing of Wednesday's NBA odds market we found Boston as low as -2.5 for this game, Indiana as high as +6. As of this writing the best deal we could find on the Celtics was the -3 offered at 5Dimes, while the Pacers were getting +3.5 at Heritage.
Also, the total on tonight's contest opened at right around 203, then dropped to 202 at many shops.
Indiana is 4-1 SU, 5-0 ATS over its last five games, after beating Orlando Monday night 97-84, covering at -5. The Pacers trailed the Magic by three points with just over six minutes to go, then ended the game on a 19-3 run to secure the victory and the cash. For the game Indiana only shot 44 percent from the floor, but hit 11 of 25 shots from 3-point range, and 18 of 22 free-throws, while holding Orlando to just 40 percent shooting.
The Pacers had won and covered three games in a row, over Utah, Detroit and this Boston team, then lost at Cleveland Saturday 101-97 but covered at +8. They've also held five of their last six foes under 100 points.
Boston, meanwhile, after losing three straight, has won two in a row, including a 99-83 decision at Milwaukee Tuesday night. But the Bucks played a big part in their own demise, committing 18 turnovers, several of which allowed the Celtics to break a close game open with a 16-0 run late in the third quarter.
On the night Boston only shot 44 percent, but hit 16 of 19 from the line and held Milwaukee to just 41 percent FG shooting.
Last Thursday the Celtics snapped that losing streak with a 118-98 win over Washington.
Somewhat surprisingly, at least to us, Boston has been favored in five of its six games, going 3-2 ATS.
This is the second meeting between these teams this season; one week ago Indiana held off Boston 100-98 in Indianapolis, winning that game outright as a two-point home dog. On the night the Pacers only shot 39 percent from the field, but held Boston to 42 percent and won the turnover battle 19-14.
Also, that game played UNDER a total of 207.
Last season Boston took three of four games from the Pacers, although of course Paul George missed all four of those contests. He's back now, apparently recovered from that terrible leg injury, averaging 24 points, eight boards and five assists per game.
Indiana is 5-3 on the UNDERS this season, as Pacers games have averaged 190 points.
Boston is 3-3 on the totals, as Celtics games have averaged 200 points.
Indiana just got a little healthier Monday night with the returns of both CJ Miles and Rodney Stuckey, bolstering the backcourt. Meanwhile, Boston's Jae Crowder, Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart are all dealing with various ailments; Crowder return from missed action Tuesday night, while Bradley left the game and didn't come back.
Boston is coming off a nice road upset last night, but in our handicapped mind that just sets the Celts up for a fade tonight. And it's hard not to like what George is doing. For your NBA picks we'll take Indiana, to win this game outright. Also, the Pacers are trending UNDER, keeping all of their games except one under 200 points. And we can dig that.
