The Magic are coming off a nice road win against the Suns, where they dropped 128 points, and while it does seem a little naïve to think they can drop that many points again, the pace of their game against the Nuggets tonight is going to be one of the speediest of the evening.

Magic vs. Nuggets

Orlando has turned over a new leaf under Frank Vogel this season. Vogel’s earlier teams in Orlando and very much in Indiana were know for their slow and methodical pace, with really sharp defense. While the defense is still relatively good, especially on the wing, Orlando is playing with much more urgency on offense this season.

The Magic play at a pace of 102 possessions per game, which ranks 5th-fastest in the league currently. However, they have cashed the over at just 3-3 on the road this year, despite the fact that their pace gets even faster on the road.

According to NBA Stats, the Magic play at a pace of 105.6 possessions per game when they are away from the Amway Center, and coming off the back to back should increase their pace, and decrease their defense.

Since the beginning of last season, the Magic have cashed the over at 10-8 coming off no rest, and even though they are 0-2 cashing it this season when playing on no rest, as we get deeper into the season, these subpar teams are going to lose their legs some when playing a back to back. Plus, this is Orlando’s third game in four nights, and this is already the third time they have been forced to play three games in four days. That’s going to catch up to them.

The Nuggets on the other hand can also play faster at home. They play at a pace of 101.6 at home, which is almost three possessions more per game. This matchup skied over the total in both of their meetings last season, and with Orlando playing quicker then they were back then, I think this one goes over the posted number of 220.
