For NBA Wednesday we had to the Western Conference where Oklahoma City takes on Orlando and Memphis visits San Antonio. Will Oklahoma City and Orlando push the tempo as odds makers expect? And will San Antonio continue their defensive surge?

Oklahoma City vs Orlando

Considering that Oklahoma City has played much better defense this year this line looks a little bit surprising set by oddsmakers, but for my NBA pick I’m going to back over the total. This is mostly predicated on the fact that Orlando has been pushing some nice tempo this season averaging 86.4 attempts per game which ranks them seventh in the NBA. More importantly though is the shot attempts they are allowing opponents at 89.4 attempts per game which ranks them near the bottom of the league. Over the last few weeks Oklahoma City has shown the propensity to get up and down just a little bit more and currently they rank just outside the top 10 in attempts per game. What is a bit concerning is the fact they have been great in limiting attempts by opponents ranking first in the NBA in both opponent field goals attempted and made per game. With Orlando coming back from a road trip, and Oklahoma City getting bogged down in their last two games, look for this contest to get up and down the floor.

Memphis vs San Antonio

Like most people I was very surprised of the firing of David Fizdale because Memphis has been without their All-Star point guard Mike Conley. Oddsmakers have come out with a very low total for this game for good reason and I expect a defensive affair so for my NBA pick I will back the under. Surprisingly these two teams have gone over the total the last four times when they met up in the playoffs last season. Today however I’ve a hard time believing they’re going to score a lot of points. Currently Memphis is the slowest tempo team in the NBA getting up just 80.7 attempts per game while San Antonio is not much quicker hitting up just 84.8 attempts. Neither team has been extremely efficient scoring the ball with San Antonio ranking 21st and Memphis 23rd in shooting efficiency. On the other side of the ball both of these teams been solid and with San Antonio recently playing better defense I look for a grind out type of affair.
