Although I don’t necessarily like to back the same team twice, I am doing exactly that today and picking the Golden State Warriors as a small odds favorite over the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now or never
It is hard to argue against the fact that this is a must win for the Warriors. Surprisingly they have really been out of sync and hats off goes to Lebron and the Cavs for having a solid plan against them. If the Warriors can carry over what they did in the fourth quarter of last game they should be in good shape to knot up the series at two apiece.
Pace and pace
The Cavs did an excellent job controlling tempo the first half of the game. In the second half they got up a bit and got away from what has been working allowing the Warriors to make that amazing run. And THAT is exactly the type of tempo the Warriors are going to look for in game four. The issue has been a combination of things but also simply the fact the Warriors have not shot as well as they should. Let’s look at last game stats:
Harrison Barnes 0-8, 0 points: Season 48% from the floor, 10 points per game.
Draymond Green 2-10, 7 points: Season 44% from the floor, 12 points per game.
Klay Thompson 6-16, 14 points: Season 46% from the floor, 22 points per game.
Stephan Curry had a nice game a solid fourth quarter, these other guys need to step up and knock down open shots like they did all season.
I just don’t think the Cavs can keep up their emotional intensity every single game this series. They have grabbed some momentum but also I think a bit of pressure. This series is far from over and statistics aside I think the Warriors are due for a serious breakout game. The Cavs have done a nice job defensively but the Warriors missed a lot of open looks last game, don’t look for them to suffer the same shooting woes today.
Bold Prediction: Warriors by nine.
