Our NBA analyst shares his two top totals for Thursday’s card. Go inside to find out what those NBA picks are, and why he’s opted to bet on them.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Oklahoma City Thunder 8:00 PM ET
New Orleans has gone 20-6 (76.9%) under the total in away games this season, including 18-5 (78.2%) if there was a total of 200.0 or more. The Pelicans have averaged just 98.6 points scored per contest, made only 28.6% of its three point attempts, and converted on a dismal 64.9% of its free throw tries during their previous five games. Considering the size of tonight’s total, those less than impressive recent offensive numbers are deemed significant in my professional opinion.

Although Oklahoma City is one of the highest scoring teams during this 2015-2016 NBA campaign, you may be surprised to know they’ve gone 18-11 (62.1%) under the total when playing at home. The Thunder is coming off a 122-106 win at Phoenix in their previous game, and they made 15 three point shots during that contest. They’ve gone 11-1 under the total during the past two seasons following a game in which they made 12 or more three point shots. Those twelve contests averaged only a combined 190.6 points scored per game.

Oklahoma City has scored 57 points or more in the first half of their last two games. The Thunder is averaging 109.9 points scored per contest this season. New Orleans is allowing an average of 102.2 points per game. Current NBA odds at 5Dimes displays a posted total of 218.5 for this contest. The combination of all these factors qualifies for a successful NBA handicapping algorithm.

Any home team with a total of 200.0 or more, averaging 102.0 or more points scored per game, and is coming off two consecutive games in which they scored 55 points or more in first half action, versus an opponent allowing an average of 102.0 points or more per outing, resulted in those games going 59-25 (70.2%) under the total in the past five seasons.

Washington Wizards vs. Milwaukee Bucks 8:05 PM ET
Washington has gone 12-3 (80%) over the total in its previous fifteen away games. The Wizards have shot a stellar 48.7% from the field during their last five contests.

Milwaukee has gone 8-1 over the total during its last nine home games, and that includes 5-0 in its last five played at the Bradley Center. The Bucks have shot a more than respectable 47.2% from the floor during its previous five games.

These teams have squared off three times this season, each of those contests went over the total, and there was a combined average of 215.0 points scored per game. During those three encounters, Washington was a blistering hot 36-70 (51.4%) from beyond the three point line. As a matter of fact, they made exactly twelve threes in each of those contests. On the other hand, Milwaukee was an impressive 49.1% from the floor during those three contests.

I like this game to produce plenty of points, and one of my Thursday NBA picks will emulate that prediction.
