Our NBA odds analyst shares his three top totals picks on the New Year’s Day card. Go inside to find out what those NBA picks are and why he’s opted to use them.

Orlando Magic vs. Washington Wizards 7:05 PM ET
Orlando has scored 100 points or more in each of their previous eight games. During its last five contests, the Magic has shot a blistering 51.3% from the field, and converted on a stellar 42.0% of their three point attempts.

Washington has been lackluster defensively over their last five contests, allowing an average of 104.4 points per game, and opponents have converted on 38.5% of their three point attempts. They’ve gone 9-5 over the total at home this season, and those contests have averaged a combined 208.5 points scored per game.

These teams met once in Washington earlier this season, the Wizards won that contest 108-99, and the game went over the total of 203.5. I like this NBA Southeast Division battle to be a high scoring affair, and one of my Friday NBA picks will be indicative of the forecast.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Miami Heat 7:35 PM ET
Dallas has averaged 113.5 points scored per game, and shot a terrific 49.3% from the field during it past four contests. Unfortunately their defensive play hasn’t been very good over its previous five games. During that time span, Dallas has allowed opponents to shoot 48.2 % from the field and convert on a robust 41.4% of its three point attempts. However, in that same five game stretch, the Mavericks have shot a blistering 46.2% from three point territory. Dallas has gone 11-6 over the total (206.3 PPG) on the road this season.

Miami has been one of the better defensive teams during this 2015-2016 NBA campaign. Unfortunately, their play has lagged a bit on that side of the floor in recent outings. Miami has allowed 100.2 points per game in its last six outings, and that’s a bit more than their season average of 95.5 allowed per contest. They’ve been a tad better offensively at home than on the road, averaging 99.3 points per game, and shooting 47.0% from the field. Miami has gone over the total in five of their last seven home games.

Current NBA odds at Pinnacle provide us with a best combination of number and price for this specific wager.

New York Knicks vs. Chicago Bulls
New York has gone over the total in seven of its last nine, and ten of their previous fourteen games. Chicago is 6-1 over the total during its past seven games, and that includes 4-0 at home. The Bulls have played at a very fast pace this season, evidenced by their average of 89 field goal attempts per game. These two Eastern Division rivals have met four times since the beginning of last season, and each of those contests have gone over the total.

Sometimes a simple approach produces the most logical choice. This has the ear marks of a higher scoring game relative to the current posted total at SportsBetting.com. In keeping with the theme of keeping it simple, surpassing the number is a logical NBA pick.
