O/U NBA Picks: Playoffs Present A Pair Of Gems To Cash On Saturday

Saturday, April 16, 2016 2:06 PM GMT

Our basketball handicapping professional has two totals picks for Saturday night. Be sure to read this intriguing article before making any NBA picks today.

Boston Celtics vs. Atlanta Hawks
Despite these teams going 3-1 over the total during four regular season meetings, and a combined 213.0 points being scored per game, major sportsbooks weren’t swayed when setting this number. As a matter of fact, current (11:00 AM ET) NBA odds at Bookmaker.com has a posted total of 204.5. At the time of this writing, Bookmaker is also indicating that 69% of bets being made on this total have gone to the over. Yet, there’s been no movement from their opening number.

Boston is averaging 105.3 points scored per game this season. Atlanta has allowed 107 points or more in each of their previous three games. This sets up a very profitable betting angle which demonstrates a contrarian approach to public perception. Check out SBR handicappers' predictions on this game because playoffs are always worth the bet.

Any team (Boston) with a total of 200.0 to 209.5, averaging 103.0 or more points scored per game, and is facing an opponent (Atlanta) which has allowed 105 points or more in each of its previous three outings, resulted in those games going 39-19 under the total during the past five seasons. There were also 66.1% of those 58 contests that went under the total by 7.0 points or more.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Oklahoma City Thunder
Dallas has displayed a style of play down the final stretch of regular season action, they must feel gives them a best chance to win. They’ve allowed 98 points or less in each of their previous nine games, went 7-2 under the total, and there was a combined average of just 184.1 points scored per contest.

During that course of time, they allowed 89.9 points per game, and averaged just 94.2 scored per outing. The Mavericks stellar defensive numbers in those contests is more predicated on slowing tempo, and not so much on stifling their opponents. Dallas has allowed foes 78 field goal attempts or less in seven of those previous nine games.

You may be surprised to know, Oklahoma City has gone 25-16 (61%) under the total at home this season. Furthermore, if there was a posted number of 200.0 to 206.5, all six Thunder home games stayed under the total, and there were a combined 194.3 points scored per contest. Oklahoma City has allowed just 97.0 points per game, and held opponents to 41.9% shooting during its last seven at home.

Relative to their current total, I like this game to be a low scoring affair, and one of my Saturday NBA picks will be indicative of that forecast.
