Our NBA handicapping professional shares his two top NBA totals picks on Wednesday’s card. Go inside to find out what those picks are, and why he’s opted to wager on them.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Houston Rockets 8:05 PM ET
This will be both teams third game in the last four days. In most instances, that type of scheduling produces tired legs, and poor shooting. That’s especially so when approaching the midway part of the season. Houston has gone 7-1 over the total in their last eight games. Minnesota has gone over the number in four straight road contests. Despite this game having the earmarks of a high scoring affair, I don’t see it playing out like that, and let me explain why.

Minnesota has scored less than 100 points in twelve straight games. They’ve also been somewhat respectable defensively in recent contests, allowing 99.5 points per game during its last eight outings. The Timberwolves enter today with a dismal 12-27 record.

Houston has allowed 94 points or less in three of their previous four games. The Rockets are coming off a decisive 107-91 win at Memphis last night, and that victory improved its season record to 20-19.

According to current NBA odds, the total in this contest is 205.5. Any team (Houston) with a total of 200.0 to 209.5, coming off a road win by ten points or more, and they possess a winning record, versus an opponent (Minnesota) with a losing record, resulted in those games going 65-26 (71.4%) under the total during the past five seasons. The average total in those 91 games was 204.5, and there were an average of 198.7 points scored per contest.

New Orleans Pelicans vs. Sacramento Kings 10:05 PM ET
New Orleans isn’t a dynamic offensive team by any stretch of the imagination. However, they’ve had 91 field goal attempts or more in three of its last four games. That’s well above NBA standards, and certainly qualifies as a torrid up tempo pace. If they choose to play that way on Wednesday, they’ll definitely have a willing dance partner in Sacramento. The Kings average 87 field goal attempts per game, and that’s well above par by NBA standards.

The Sacramento Kings have gone over the total in each of their previous seven games. During those contests, there was a sizable average of 233.0 points scored per game. During their last five games, Sacramento has averaged 116.5 points scored per outing, and shot a stellar 50.2% from the floor while attempting a lofty 90 field goal attempts per game. On the other hand, their defense has left much to be desired in that exact time frame. During that five game stretch, Sacramento has allowed an average of 121.6 points per contest, and opponents have converted on a sizzling hot 50.9% of their field goal attempts.

We have a New Orleans team that’s gone 17-4 (81%) under the total on the road this season, yet the sportsbooks were undeterred when setting this total. Additionally, sharp money has moved this from an opening number of 213.0 to its current state of 214.0. I like this game to be a high scoring affair, and one of my NBA picks on Wednesday will be indicative of that prediction.
