Our NBA handicapping professional shares his two top totals on Thursday’s card. Go inside to find out what those NBA picks are, and why he’s chosen to bet on them.

Detroit Pistons vs. New Orleans Pelicans 8:05 PM ET
Detroit has gone 4-1 over the total in their last five games, and there was a combined average of 213.8 points scored per contest. They’ve scored 101 points or more in each of their previous four outings. The Pistons had a difficult time defending the three point line in recent games. Opponents have converted on a sizzling hot 44.6% of its three point attempts against Detroit in the Pistons last five games. That’s not good news, since New Orleans has converted on a stellar 40.0% of its three point tries over its last five outings.

New Orleans has gone 18-5 under the total on the road this season. However, when playing at home it’s been a whole other story. They’ve gone 12-6 over the total on its home floor, and there’s been a combined average of 211.9 points scored per contest. New Orleans has gone over the total in each of their previous three games, and shot an impressive 49.6% from the floor in those outings.

This game has all the earmarks of a high scoring affair, and one of my Thursday NBA picks will be reflective of that notion.

Memphis Grizzlies vs. Denver Nuggets 9:05 PM ET
Memphis has seen each of its last five games go over the total. The Grizzlies have been a below average three point shooting team this season. However, that’s certainly not been the case in its last five games, considering they’ve converted on a robust 41.8% of their long distance tries. Unfortunately, Memphis opponents have also connected on a red-hot 39.8% of their three point attempts against them during that exact same stretch.

Denver is 4-0 over the total in their last four contests, and there’s been a combined average of 221.0 points scored per game. They’ve also seen eight of their last ten home games go over the total. The Nuggets have a terrible 38.1 three point defensive field goal percentage this season.

Finally, both of these teams have been adept at getting to the free throw line in an abundance of times during recent contests, and have converted at a very high rate. Memphis has averaged 29 free throw attempts per game in its last five, and made 80.0% of those attempts. Denver has been able to get to the charity stripe on an average of 32 times per game in its last five, and converted on an exceptional 81.9% of those tries.

Current NBA odds provide me with a best combination of number and price for this exact wager.
