What is wrong with the Denver Nuggets? Being without Nikola Jokic and Paul Millsap is not helping, but for whatever reason they are not playing well, especially defensively. A matchup against the Orlando Magic could help that, but it could also lead to a game where both teams play very little defense and the score is sky-high.

Free NBA Pick: OVER 218 ½Best Line Offered: at Bookmaker

Without their starting frontcourt, the Nuggets have really struggled on defense as of late. They are giving up 114 points per game over their last four games, and they have cashed the over in three of those four games.

The Magic have been playing better as of late, but they too have been in the dumpster defensively. This too has helped them cash the over though, as they have hit over the number in seven of their last nine games.

The sportsbooks are starting to realize this, and the total has started to creep up for this one since it opened and it’s sitting at 218 ½ to 219 points. This is an insane value for the over for reasons listed above, and for the pace of this one.

Orlando is playing at a pace of more than 100 possessions per game. If the Nuggets get drawn into that kind of pace tonight, this is an easy over play for me. Denver hasn’t been playing as fast as they did over the last year or two, but with both their starting bigs out, that may have no choice in this one.

This is especially true because neither one of these teams play any defense. They rank 23rd and 24th in defensive rating this season, and Denver is allowing their opponents to post a 55.0% effective field goal percentage, which ranks 29th in the NBA.

The last time these two played earlier this season in Denver, the Nuggets dropped 125 points on the Magic in a 125-107 win, and this one could be just as high scoring on Friday from the Amway Center.
