Hoops fans have an enticing contest to sink their teeth into when the Nuggets descend on the Clippers for Saturday night’s NBA betting card. Here we preview the game and serve up our betting verdict.

Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers

Saturday, May 01, 2021 – 10:00 PM EDT at Staples Center

Denver Nuggets On a Roll

The Nuggets have reeled off four straight wins to improve to a 42-21 record on the season, which puts them merely 3.5 games back of Western Conference leaders Utah Jazz and half-a-game back of the Los Angeles Clippers. In their last ten games, form is a stellar 8-2 SU while in their last 20 games, it’s an even more impressive 16-4 SU.

The Nuggets won their last meeting with the Clippers at the Staples Center 101-94, thereby splitting the series 1-1 on the season. Saturday’s showdown marks the third and final meeting between these rivals before the curtain comes down on the season.

Most recently, the Nuggets defeated the Toronto Raptors 121-111 at home, comfortably covering as the -5 sportsbook faves in point spread betting markets. Separately, Michael Porter Jr. led the team for the fourth time in the last five games. He put up 23 points, 7 rebounds and 1 assist.

Nikola Jokic, who led the team with 11 rebounds, contributed 19 points on the night along with 2 assists. Elsewhere, the Nuggets got contributions from JaMychal Green with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists and Facundo Campazzo, who put up 12 points, 2 rebounds and 4 assists.

Overall, the Nuggets are 30-33-0 ATS on the season with an average 5.3 winning margin. On their travels, the Nuggets boast a 15-14-0 ATS mark with an average 3.9 winning margin. Denver is averaging 115.6 points per game (fourth best) and making 43.6 percent of field goals (second best), all the while conceding 110.2 points per game (eighth overall).

LA Clippers Need To Bounce Back

The Los Angeles Clippers are mired in a mini-slump, losing back-to-back games to the New Orleans Pelicans and Phoenix Suns on the road. Although the Clippers’ form in the last ten games is an encouraging 7-3 SU mark, these setbacks have come at a cost as a matter of fact. Denver has capitalised by closing the gap in the standings and is now a victory away from leapfrogging Los Angeles into third place.

It goes without saying, Denver breathing down Los Angeles’ neck puts a heavy premium on the win. The onus is sure to be on the hosts to come through at the expense of the Nuggets at the Staples Center.

The Phoenix Suns beat the LA Clippers 109-101 to clinch a playoff spot for the first time in 11 years. Which is watershed moment for the Suns, but not the best look for the Clippers and their title ambitions this season. Moreover, the loss wasn’t even close, barely whiffing at the closing point spread (+4.5) across various online betting sites.

It’s worth pointing out though that the Clippers won seven-straight at home before embarking on their three-game road trip and which includes a win over the Houston Rockets prior to the losses at New Orleans and Phoenix.

The Clippers are 36-27-1 against NBA spreads on the season with a 6.2 winning margin on average. At home, they’re 20-12-0 ATS with an 8.8 winning margin on average.

NBA Predictions and Picks

In a game that could potentially go either way given the quality, talent and skill that’s set to collide, never mind the high stakes, it’s true that value is to be had on either side of the coin in the betting. As such, bettors could do no worse either way for the NBA picks.

For our money, we’re backing the Clippers as the home chalk.
