Two teams on the opposite end of playoff scenarios meet tonight. Denver is trying to keep pace for the West's final playoff spot, while host Toronto is close to securing the East's top seed.

Usually a game with this much playoff importance will be lower scoring because of the desperate defense being played. These teams can play defense, but in the first half of games it hasn’t been happening lately.

The Nuggets are allowing more than 56 points per first half on the road this season, and in their last five games they have scored an average of 60.4 points per first half. The Raptors have been cruising offensively, averaging nearly 63 first-half points over their last five games.

With a first-half total set at 116 on tonight's NBA odds board, the first-half "over" looks like a fine play with your NBA picks. Both teams rank inside the top seven in the league in first-half offensive rating, and both are playing at first-half paces of 101 or higher.

Denver’s defense also takes a hit in the first half on the road. The Nuggets rank 24th in first-half defensive rating on the road. Since the All-Star break, Denver has gotten better in that area, but they have also started playing faster in the first half.

Against a high-powered offense such as Toronto, it would not surprise me to see both teams at or near 60 first-half points if the pace is up like it should be.
