The Nets are coming off getting worked last night against the Milwaukee Bucks, and now they have to play another tough northern-based team tonight in Minnesota, and they may have to do it without their best forward.

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson was hurt last night against the Bucks, and his status for tonight’s game in Minnesota is up in the air. Even with D’Angelo Russell back, the Nets’ guard is not playing many minutes yet, which means RHJ has to be the number one option offensively.

If he is out, that could really hurt the Nets’ chances of getting a win in this game. Furthermore, if Jimmy Butler sits out, the Wolves’ defense could suffer as well. In the last four games Butler has been out, the Wolves have allowed 119 points per game.

Butler was definitely the glue that held that defense together, and if he is out again tonight, which is likely against a bad team on a back to back, the Wolves’ defense might give up some points in this one.

The big reason I don’t like the spread is the trap potential for the Wolves coming off that loss to the Warriors. If they don’t have Butler as well, they may forgo defense and let the Nets hang around in this on offensively.

However, that’s good for the over too if Butler sits. Without Butler on the court this season, the Wolves’ defense is giving up nearly 12 more points per 100 possessions according to Basketball Reference. Even though their offense takes a hit too, it’s not near as big of a hit as the defense takes.

If Butler sits again, I see the Wolves committing to outscoring the Nets, rather that playing them tough on defense. That is going to lead to higher scoring from both teams, so add the over to your NBA Picks tonight.
