The Wizards are on a bad run right now and will take on a Brooklyn team that's won three straight tonight. Which team should we feel confident in backing with our sports picks?
The NBA odds for this one really depend on which sportsbook you use. Some books have the Wizards favored by six points, while others have a number as low as five.
If you're dying, for some reason, to get in on the action when it comes to the total, the O/U is at 193.5 points righht now.
The losing streak has now reached five games for the Wizards. Considering they hadn't lost more than two games in a row at any point earlier in the season, this is as bad as we've seen them perform. The defeats haven't come against the best competition either, with two losses to Charlotte and then defeats to Toronto, Phoenix and Atlanta.
Overall Washington is at 31-20, which is still good for the third seed in the Eastern Conference . That being said, both Chicago and Cleveland are close behind (30-20 and 31-21), so there isn't much room for error atop the conference now. We've got five teams that are legitimately fighting it out for the top spots.
In the grand scheme of things, we're not all that worried about the Wizards though. They have more than enough talent to compete and they picked up some much-needed playoff experience last year, which should serve them well this season. Adding an experienced guy like Paul Pierce to the mix has turned out to be a great move, and the backcourt of John Wall and Bradley Beal continues to play well.
For just the second time this season, the Nets have put together a three-game winning streak. They've beaten the Clippers, Raptors and Knicks during the run, with the win over New York coming just last night. Now Brooklyn can be found with a 21-29 overall record, which has them in the eighth seed in the East, just ahead of Miami (21-29).
Against the Knicks, the Nets had to scrap their way to the win, but they found a way. Deron Williams returned and played 26 minutes off the bench, but the night belonged to Brook Lopez, who had 22 points, nine rebounds and six blocks. Jarrett Jack, Joe Johnson and Kevin Garnett all scored in double figures as well, with Brooklyn shooting 50.0 percent overall from the floor, while holding New York to 38.2 percent shooting.
We're eager to see if this is the beginning of a real run for the Nets, but more than likely it's just a small run that's soon to extinguish. After all, Brooklyn hasn't really offered much to get hopeful about, and there's a lot of inner turmoil going on within that franchise. We don't really expect them to make any serious noise when push comes to shove.
We've gotten the Wizards wrong here lately, but we're going right back to well again tonight and picking them to win and cover the spread at home.
Recent performances would suggest we should be backing Brooklyn, but we feel this is a perfect opportunity for Washington to bounce back and end this losing streak.
This should be a great chance for both Wall and Beal to set the tone against Brooklyn's makeshift backcourt. Jack has been playing well, but he and Alan Anderson are no match for Wall and Beal. Throw in an extreme motivation to get back to their winning ways, and we look for the Wizards to cash as favorites for your NBA picks..
NBA Pick: Washington Wizards -5.5 (Odds at most books have them currently listed at 6)
