The Nets travel to Cleveland to face the Cavaliers in this 7:05 ET tip. The Cavaliers are favored by 15 points on the NBA odds board. Can the Nets keep the game close?

Brooklyn Nets vs. Cleveland Cavaliers (-14-) 7:05 ET
After beating Brooklyn by 2 and 13 points earlier this year, Cleveland was caught flat footed in a (104-95) win by the Nets in Brooklyn last Thursday.  Now, the Cavs have an opportunity to revenge that defeat just 1 week later on their home court.

The question is whether Cleveland even cares about that loss.

A quick look at the Eastern Conference playoff standings finds the Brooklyn Nets mired in 14th place with a record of 21-53 SU for the season (31 games behind 1st place Cleveland).  The Cavs are 52-22 SU, holding a 2-game lead over Toronto, with 7 games to play.  But, neither Cleveland nor Toronto, seem particularly concerned about whether they finish 1st or 2nd.  I guess they each figure, they can handle either Detroit or Indiana (the projected 7th and 8th seeds).

Cleveland certainly did not care on Tuesday night, when they sat LeBron James in a 106-100 loss to a Houston team, who was suiting up for their playoff lives.  That begs the query of whatever happened to the integrity of the league?  Despite the fact that Cleveland lost to Brooklyn just one week ago, it is doubtful they have much motivation for this game.  After all, they are 6-11 ATS when favored by 9 or more points on this court this season.

Betting Analysis
Brooklyn has only won 7 games on the road this season.  Their 29th road loss came when they got blown out at Orlando Tuesday night by a count of 139-105.  But, tonight with a final opportunity to face the best team in the Eastern Conference, I expect Brooklyn to play with far more interest.  Knowing that Cleveland has not won any of the three meetings this season by more than 13 points and that Brooklyn is 12-4 ATS as double digit road dog, only reinforces that opinion.

It wasn’t that long ago that handicapping the final month of the NBA was almost always a profitable exercise on a nightly basis.  But, “late scratches” of key players for purposes of rest often leaves teams at less than full strength and with the unspoken message from the HC that the contest has low priority.  Such may well be the case with Cleveland tonight, as a victory by any margin allows them to maintain their lead on Toronto, but still satisfy their thirst for revenge for last week.  The yearlong, home/road dichotomy of these numbers at this mid-teen price range certainly indicates that figures to be the case.  I invite you to put the NBA odds in your favor and join me in my NBA picks on the Brooklyn Nets tonight.
