In this post we’ll focus on the No.3 seeded Sixers, who dropped the series opener to the No.6 seeded Nets 111-102 and, obviously, in so doing, they failed to cover as the closing -7.5 home faves.

To say it was a disappointing result across the board is to put it mildly. It’s not exactly the way the Sixers (51-31 SU overall and 31-10 SU at home) hoped to kick off their playoffs. That said, there’s a lot of positive noise coming out of their locker room ahead of game 2. A confidence that they’ll come back tonight and level the series.

Well, not all is lost after all. It was only game 1 of the postseason and while they did look a bit out of sorts they clearly underestimated the opponent and, perhaps, there was a bit of the jitters as well. There is still a lot to play for and guard Jimmy Butler (source ESPN) was on hand to say just that.

The Nets (42-20 SU) will be emboldened after winning game 1 against the odds. And not by a smidgen either but by a healthy nine points. It must be said though the sixth seeds punched above their weight class – during the regular season they were merely 19-22 SU on the road and 25-16-0 ATS with a -2.4 losing margin on average.

Public heavy on Nets in Game 2 Oddsmakers have gone to press with the Sixers as the -7.5 home faves in opening markets but the line has since moved to -8. Curiously, early betting consensus trends shows the Nets have 56% of early bets.

Does the public really believe the Nets will go up 2-0 in Philly? Can we have back-to-back upsets?

Make no mistake, Brooklyn to make it back-to-back wins is going to be no mean trick, now especially when the Sixers know only too well not to underestimate them again. The Sixers are down 0-1 in the series and if they hope to get back into it they really need to make home advantage count. They know this isn’t an opponent to give a 2-0 leg up to before the series switches cities.

All season long NBA neutrals have been high on the Brooklyn Nets, predicting they would pose a tricky obstacle in the playoffs. Game 1, Nets certainly proved that and, in turn, the public seems to be developing a bit of a crush on them in NBA betting markets, which makes Philly a bit of an unpopular favourite with 44% of the bets (at this point in time, 12 pm ET, Monday April 15).

NBA Betting Verdict: Brooklyn thoroughly deserved to win game 1. No ifs or buts about it. They came out prepared and took it to the hosts. Game 2 is going to be different because the Sixers are faced with a must-win game. They should win straight up and level the series. Playing the ATS line is a bit tricky because the Nets will be up for this game and after the first game 8 points does seem to be a lot to lay with the hosts. Then again, if they want to send a message that they are in it to win it too then a big win would be the way to go.
