Nets vs. Lakers Picks, Predictions: Can Brooklyn Extend Winning Streak to 3?
The Brooklyn Nets will be playing a Los Angeles team for the second night in a row when they face off against the Lakers on Sunday night. Here are our Nets-Lakers picks and predictions.
The Los Angeles Lakers (2-10) still haven’t been able to build any momentum this season and are riding a five-game losing streak heading into Sunday night. Forward LeBron James has been upgraded to doubtful for this game, and if he’s unable to suit up, their losing woes may continue. To make matters worse, forward Anthony Davis has also been listed as day-to-day with a back injury.
The Brooklyn Nets (6-7) have also gotten off to a disappointing start and will be missing star point guard Kyrie Irving as he continues to serve his suspension. They have been riding the hot hand of Kevin Durant as of late and have won four of their last 5 games, including their last two games after beating the Clippers last night.
Here are our Nets-Lakers NBA picks Sunday (odds via FanDuel Sportsbook, DraftKings Sportsbook; pick confidence based on a 1-to-5-star scale).

Nets vs. Lakers Odds Analysis
After opening at -2.5 in favour of the Nets, the spread has moved to -4 and even -4.5 at some sports books. Roughly 58% of wagers are on the Nets at this point.
The Over/Under opened at 224 and has moved to as low as 218.5 at some sportsbooks. The bets are split at this point, with 49% of the wagers on the Over.
Nets vs. Lakers Picks
Nets vs. Lakers ATS Pick
Nets -4.5 (-110) ★★★★
If the Lakers are missing James again, they will have to really slow down Durant and figure out a way to score the basketball efficiently in order to win. I’m not sure I like the odds of either of those things happening, let alone both. If Davis is also out, their roster starts to look more like a G League team than an NBA team and it becomes even harder to see how they will cover the spread. The Lakers are an NBA worst 2-10 against the spread so far this season.
For the Nets, everything is going through Durant, who seems to be managing the workload fine, averaging over 30 points per game on 52.5% shooting from the field. After a slow start to the season, Brooklyn looks like it’s turning it around, winning four of the team's last five games, including the last two. If things continue the way they’ve been going, look for the Nets to cover the spread.
Nets vs. Lakers O/U Pick
Under 219 (-112) ★★★★
The Nets are 4-9 against the Over so far this season while the Lakers are 6-6. Both teams are missing key offensive pieces in Irving and James. The Nets like to play slow, ranking 26th in pace of play so far this season, and will probably look to slow the game down knowing they have the better half-court offence.
The Nets have also clamped down defensively as of late, giving up less than 100 points in five straight games. I like the value of the Under in this one.
Nets vs. Lakers Prop Pick
Lonnie Walker IV Over 16.5 points (-115) ★★★★
Lakers guard Lonnie Walker IV has enjoyed some good scoring numbers so far this season, averaging a career-high 15.7 points per game after joining the Lakers from the San Antonio Spurs in the offseason. While he is taking two more shot attempts per game this season compared to last, he is also shooting a career high 45.7% from the field in ten games with Los Angeles.
Last game, his only game he played without James so far this season, he scored 19 points on 14 field-goal attempts. There are a lot of shots available with James out, and a few of these should go to Walker. I like the odds of him hitting the Over on points.
