Hawks take back the lead in the series with the Nets. Now they'll look to close it out in game 6, when the pair resume hostilities in the playoffs on Friday. Check out our betting preview & NBA picks.
Atlanta Hawks In Ascendance
The Atlanta Hawks assumed control on Wednesday night, after beat the dogged Brooklyn Nets 107-97 and moving ahead 3-2. They head back to Brooklyn for game 6, looking to wrap up the series and advance into the next round.
As it stands, the Atlanta Hawks are the road favourites at -175 to win outright and the 4-point faves against the spread. Consider they are the top seed in the Eastern Conference, the market stance is justifiable. That said, it was supposed to be a straightforward series for the Hawks against the eighth seeded Nets. Nobody expected it to go beyond four games, let alone to game 6.
Yet, here we are. Heading into a pivotal game 6 with the series heating up. Getting here wasn't easy either, mind. The Hawks had their work cut out for them in game 5, not least Al Horford, who aggravated his dislocated finger, and Jeff Teague, who twisted his right ankle. It was the effort of the walking wounded, a heroic win against a resilient Nets side that just won't go away in the NBA Playoffs; at least, not without a fight.
Nets Look To Bounce Back
The Nets managed to get as close as 90-89 in game 5, only for the Hawks to kick it up a gear and runaway with the game for the double-digit win. It marked the first game of the series the Nets failed to cover as the 9-point underdogs, after going 4-0 ATS in the first four. It's worth mentioning, they missed the cover by a mere point in the 107-97 loss.
Going back home to Brooklyn, the Nets have to be optimistic about their chances. They've put paid on their regular season by going toe-to-toe with the Hawks; most notably, they haven't lost at home in this series yet, winning both home games to level with the Hawks 2-2.
Although they are down 3-2 in the series and on the verge of elimination, home form is 2-0 SU and ATS) in the NBA Playoffs, which is hard to ignore. Certainly, is going to be a source of confidence for the Nets. Another is the fact that they've been competitive in all five games with the Hawks.
It's worth noting, odds makers aren't buying what they are selling. Although they have yet to lose at home, they are priced as the +155 home dogs on the NBA odds board. Could the bookies be selling them short?
NBA Betting Verdict
The Atlanta Hawks were made to work very hard for their win on Wednesday night over the Brooklyn Nets. In fact, the Nets came to within a point, which brings us back to the point that the Hawks haven't played up to their lofty standards in the NBA Playoffs. Then again, the postseason is another season entirely, and the Nets are taking advantage of this clean slate, so to speak. The Hawks are the considerable favourites at -175 NBA odds to win outright, and most NBA bettors are sure to take stock in a Hawks win. But this series has the whiff of a game 7, based on what we've seen so far. At least, the Nets deserve a game 7 for the effort they've put into this series. So far, each team has only won at home. If that trend holds true, the Nets would emerge as the value NBA pick to win at home at +155 NBA odds.
