Our resident NBA handicapping professional shares his two top total bets for Thursday night. Go inside to find out what they are and why you need to add them to you NBA Picks.

Miami Heat vs. Minnesota Timberwolves 8:05 PM ET
Miami is averaging just 80 field goal attempts per game, and that slower pace suits them just fine. The Heat has also been excellent defensively, holding opponents to only 41.6% shooting from the floor, and that includes a paltry 27.4% from three point range. They’re also surrendering just 11 offensive rebounds per game, and by doing so further limiting opponents offensive possessions. They’ve seen each of their previous three games go under the total.

Minnesota also prefers a slower tempo to their games, and that’s evidenced by an average of just 78 field goal attempts per contest. Their 102.7 points per game average is a bit askew. The Timberwolves are getting to the free throw line an abnormal 39 times per game. You can be rest assured they won’t be anywhere near that number this evening. Minnesota is holding opponents to only 37.9% shooting, and that includes 25.6% from beyond the three point line. They’re a horrible three point shooting team themselves, converting on a pathetic 22.7% of their attempts.

I like this game to be a low scoring affair. One of my NBA picks on Thursday will echo that sentiment.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Chicago Bulls 8:05 PM ET
Both of these teams have been able to shoot the three point shot with a high degree of efficiency thus far. Oklahoma City is converting a 39.3% of those long distance attempts, and Chicago is at 38.6%. This will be the first meeting of the season between these teams, and each of their two encounters a season ago went over the total.

Chicago is coming off a 130-105 loss at Charlotte in their previous contest, and that game easily went over the total of 193.5. Both teams enter tonight with identical 3-2 (.600) records. This set up a very profitable betting system pertaining to the total.

Any team (Chicago) with a total of 200.0 or more, coming off a game in which they went over the total by 24.0 points or more, resulted in those games going 59-26 (69.4%) over the total since 1996. The average number in those 85 games was 209.9, and there were a combined 216.1 points scored per contest. We also saw 48.3% of those games go over the total by 7.0 points or more.
