After going to the line a ridiculous ninety eight times in their last match up I am placing my NBA pick expecting a more defensive battle when the Houston Rockets visit the Los Angeles Clippers.

Clippers vs. Rockets Game 3 Betting Preview
The NBA betting odds makers have come out with this total at 217.  This seems pretty logical considering the first two games went for 218 and 224.  I am anticipating though that both these teams being knotted at 1-1 will start to focus more on the defensive end.  Both teams have done a good job over the course of the season defensively and that is where this game will be decided.

Playing To and Above the Averages
Defensively on the season these teams combined allowed opponents to shoot 44.4% from the field.  So far in their two match-ups of this series they are allowing a combined 45.5%, not a huge a difference.  Also there has not been a huge difference in field goals attempted combined with both going for 166.7 shots per game during the season compared to 167 average the last two games.  A big difference has been the free throw attempts as they went to the stripe 54 times in game one and a ridiculous 98 times in game two, on the year combined they averaged 52 free throw attempts.

The Clippers have been playing really well on the defensive end at home.  Against the Spurs they stepped things up and held them to below 44% from the floor.  I expect them to control the pace more at home and for both teams to not go to the line nearly as much as the first two games.  On top of this, on the year in L.A. the scores against the Rockets went for 215 and 198 totals.  I am expecting a much tougher defensive battle after these teams look at some tape and will place my NBA pick expecting this game to go pretty under the total.
