For tonight I have identified some value on Wednesday’s slate between the Knicks and Celtics and I am ready to release this NBA pick for free!

NBA Preseason Record: 3-4

Brad Stevens' liberal rotations

While most NBA teams are using the end of the preseason to have some dress rehearsals for the regular season, Brad Stevens is taking a different approach. The Celtics have spent the preseason playing 15 or 16 guys in a particular game, leading to everyone, including their starters, only playing about 15-18 minutes per game.

Last game for Boston saw Avery Bradley lead their starters in minutes with 18, but what’s been even more baffling is the Celtics are winning these games. After losing their first preseason contest to the Sixers, Boston has won five in a row, including a blowout of the Nets in their last game where they played 16 players.

The Celtics are heading into their final preseason game tonight and while it wouldn’t be surprising to see the Celtics rest some players, another stint of them only playing 10-15 minutes is more likely.

That helps and hurts Boston in this one. On one hand, their deep and young roster of guys trying to gain minutes off the bench will be playing hard on both ends of the court and the fact that they aren’t playing many minutes could lead to them being better down the stretch of this one.

On the other hand, it hurts because what happens if the Knicks use this game as a regular season dress rehearsal?

The Sharp Pick

While we have yet to hear about who is in or out for both teams, the Knicks are faced with the dreaded preseason back to back starting tonight. After playing in Boston tonight, the Knicks travel to Brooklyn to finalize the preseason tomorrow, so Jeff Hornacek has a decision to make.

There is no way he plays his starters in both games. The Knicks have some roster spots to finalize and I bet that Hornacek is going to want to get a long look at some of his young players at some point in one of these two games.

Will he use tonight as the dress rehearsal and punt tomorrow’s game for the young players? That is my guess, but we won’t have any confirmation of this until starters are announced later in the evening.

With that in mind, the over seems like both the safest NBA pick and best play for this game. These two teams played about four days ago to a score of 119-107 and in Boston, we might see a similar game. At 206 ½ points, take the over on this one.
