NBA exhibition games don't have quite the draw as the NFL, but you can find definite betting value in preseason match-ups! On Wednesday, the Raptors visit the Clippers and there's money to be made with the spread offered as a pick'em & the Total at 205.

 Raptors Start Preseason 1-1

Toronto had the best season in franchise history last year in finishing with the Eastern Conference's second-best record at 56-26 and winning the Atlantic Division again -- does anyone even care about NBA divisions? Commissioner Adam Silver himself has talked about doing away with them. The Raptors beat Indiana in seven games in the first round of the playoffs, Miami in seven in the conference semifinals and then lost in six in the Eastern Conference Finals to Cleveland. Toronto had never won at least 50 games before nor gone that far in the playoffs.

This offseason, the No. 1 priority was re-signing All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan. The Raptors had to overpay to do it, but then every NBA player was overpaid this offseason with the salary cap spike. The team also added Celtics power forward Jared Sullinger on a fairly team-friendly deal. The big loss was the center and shot-blocking machine Bismack Biyombo in free agency. He was so defensively dominant in the postseason that he priced himself out of the Raptors' budget. But the Raptors hope to have replaced him with first-round pick Jakob Poeltl, a center from Utah.

The Raptors opened the preseason with a 97-93 win over the Warriors on Saturday and then lost 108-106 in Calgary on Monday to Denver as 3.5-point favorites on NBA odds. DeRozan had 15 points in 16 minutes vs. the Nuggets. Jonas Valanciunas had 20 points and nine rebounds in 19 minutes. Pöltl was 4-for-6 from the field for 10 points with six rebounds. Terrence Ross, who lost a lot of weight in the offseason, led all scorers with 23 points off the bench. Carroll (rest) and Sullinger (left foot) didn't play. After giving it away 23 times vs. the Warriors, the Raptors had only 11 turnovers vs. Denver.

Clippers Lay An Egg In Preseason Opener

Los Angeles finished 53-29 last season. That's a very good record and would have you contending for a title in some other divisions, but not the Pacific. Of course, that's where the Golden State Warriors play so the Clippers finished 20 games behind them. I really would have liked to have seen the Clippers play the Warriors in the Western Conference semifinals, but Los Angeles lost All-Stars Blake Griffin and Chris Paul to injuries in the first round against Portland and not surprisingly the Clippers dropped the final four games after winning the first two.

I believe the 2016-17 season is the last hurrah for this group if it doesn't win a championship. Ownership and Coach Doc Rivers decided to keep the band together for one more year, but Griffin and Paul are set for free agency next summer. The Clippers were tight against the cap so were quiet in free agency, although they tried to lure Kevin Durant, losing the likes of Jeff Green and Cole Aldrich and adding former Warriors reserve Marresse Speights.

The preseason means nothing, but the Clippers looked terrible Tuesday night in their opener at Golden State, losing 120-75 as 6-point underdogs on NBA picks. The Clips trailed by as many as 53. Griffin had six points and five fouls in 18  minutes. Paul had more turnovers (two) than points (one) in 13 minutes. J.J. Redick was 1-for-7 from the field in 14 minutes. The one bright spot was Speights with 14 points and five rebounds off the bench. Because this is the second of a back-to-back, it's not clear if some Clippers might sit out the home opener.

Los Angeles is 1-2 all-time vs. Toronto in the preseason. The Raptors have won four straight in the regular-season series. Because L.A. played so badly on Tuesday, I actually like it here. Rivers wasn't happy with that effort. Go 'over' the total.
