The Pistons come back from a long road trip to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at home tonight. Can they take care of business at home? Join us for a winning NBA pick.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Oklahoma City is averaging 103.2 points per game while allowing 100.8 points per game and are averaging 46.7 points in the paint which ranks sixth in the NBA. They haven't lost as much of a beat as most people probably anticipated without Kevin Durant which is mostly due to their emphasis on the defensive side. Currently, although they are pushing pace averaging 87.7 field-goal attempts per game which rank as one of the fastest in the league, they are holding teams to just 31.1% shooting from distance which ranks them third.

Across the board, they have some nice defensive statistics ranking second in opponent shooting efficiency, fourth in opponent effective field-goal percentage, and fifth in opponent assist per game. If they can keep up those type of statistics throughout the season they should remain competitive in the very tough Western Conference. The issue surprisingly, however, has been that offensively they have not been very efficient ranking 20th and 21st in offensive shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage respectively.

Detroit Pistons

Detroit is averaging 97.7 points per game but only allowing 97 points per game which rank them fourth in the league in scoring defense. Their defense has really stepped up this season and they are a little bit of a mirror image of Oklahoma City and that they haven't been very efficient. Currently, Detroit ranks 25th in the league in both offenses shooting efficiency and effective field-goal percentage. However, on the other side of the ball, they have been very solid ranking third in both opponents two-points shooting percentage and opponent effective field-goal percentage, as well as ranking fourth in opponent shooting efficiency.

If they can keep Oklahoma City, who likes to get out in transition, to a reasonable pace I believe Detroit has the capability of winning this game handily. Both teams rebound the ball well but in the end,  the Pistons play very well at home, 4-0 this season, and with Oklahoma City coming off a back to back I expect them to win this game by close to double digits.

Oklahoma City Thunder vs Detroit Pistons

Odds makers have Detroit as a -3 favorite across the board. For my NBA pick, I'm going to back them minus the points in this spot. Oklahoma City is still very talented but I believe Detroit is a sleeper in the East this season.
