Two days was not enough to prepare for the defending Champs in Game 1, after the injured LA Clippers forced the Trailblazers to the limit Friday night elimination victory of the Clippers.

That short rest showed in the 1st quarter, when Golden St. bolted to a 37-17 1st quarter lead. Portland is well aware that Golden St. looks to send a message in 1st quarters and dominate the action with their amped-up defense that protects the paint and leads to many transition baskets. Playing without last year’s MVP Stephen Curry, Golden St. is every bit as dominant.

Curry’s running mate, Klay Thompson, scored 37 points while playing outstanding defense on Blazer’s lead guard, Lillard, who combined with his own running mate, C.J. McCollum, to shoot just 13 for 33 from the field. Though Lillard continues to battle a chest cold, he plans to be ready for the Tuesday game “I have always said there are no excuses. The bottom line is my team needs me to perform better than I did. Tomorrow, I have got to be better. I will be. Our team will be better.”

After falling behind by 20, the Blazers exhibited the type of gutsy effort that has made the Blazers this year’s biggest surprise team in the NBA. After winning 51 games last year, they lost 4 of their 5 starters retaining only Lillard. Under the guidance of HC Stotts, they outperformed expectations of 27 wins for the regular season with a 44-38 record.

True to their nature, the Blazers actually outscored Golden St. by 8 points over the final 3 quarters of the game. It is that never-say-die attitude that will allow them to be competitive in this game. Look for Portland to improve on their 10 for 31 shooting from behind the arc and to do a better job of their (-15) rebound margin.

Much like OKC last night, another Top Play winner for us, look for Portland to be competitive in the 4th quarter with a possibility of stealing this game! Much like OKC, they have outstanding Tourney Round 2, Game 2, situations working in their favor, as well as the fact that double digit dogs off a SUATSL are now 4-1 ATS this year, extending their superb record of excellence in the previous 25 NBA seasons.

Who gave Golden St. their worse loss of the year, these Portland Trailblazers in a 137-105 drubbing? I invite you to put the NBA Odds in your favor and join me in my NBA Pick on the Portland Trailblazers tonight.
