We barely split a pair of NBA playoff Picks yesterday, and I am back today with a couple more plays for your Picks tonight. Sunday’s NBA schedule still is loaded with value from the NBA Odds.
Nets vs. Hawks
Game 1 of the #1 vs. #8 matchup in the Western Conference was never really a contest yesterday, but no one is debating the NBA Finals prowess of the Golden State Warriors. However, people are debating on whether the Hawks can make it to the NBA Finals, and how they play the Nets tonight might be our first indicator on whether or not they can. The NBA Odds have the Hawks as solid -10 favorites, with a total of 202 ½. While the spread is a little high for my liking, the total presents some really good value in my opinion, and I think under could be one of the better plays of the game.
The Hawks have had a good chance to rest some of their players down the stretch of the season, and that should certainly help their defense coming into this game. As long as they can neutralize Brook Lopez in the post, the Hawks should have no trouble slowing down this Brooklyn offense. Also, the Nets’ defense can play well at times, and if they show up tonight and don’t give up 110 to the Hawks, the under is definitely the play.
For the Nets, the under finished the regular season at 12-5 in their last 17 road games against home teams with winning percentages of 60% or better, and as I mentioned above, the Hawks have had a nice opportunity to rest some of their guys heading into this series, so as long as they play like the defensive team we saw in the regular season, this NBA odds total of 202 ½ is just a bit too high.

Blazers vs. Grizzlies
Despite some of their injury concerns heading into this game, the Memphis Grizzlies should feel pretty good. The Blazers aren’t exactly the perfect example of health either, and while Portland has shown the ability to beat good teams, I think Memphis is going to win this series, and this game. The NBA Odds have Memphis as a -5 ½ favorite here, with a total of 188 ½, and as long as Memphis’ wings and guards are healthy heading into this one, I see them covering the spread at home.
The issue is exactly that; health. Tony Allen is nursing a hamstring injury, and while he says he isn’t quite 100%, he said he will play tonight despite not feeling the greatest. On top of that, Jeff Green is questionable to play with lower back tightness, and Mike Conley is a little banged up still with his foot injury. While I expect all three of these guys to play, it is imperative that they stay relatively healthy through this game, and throughout this series if the Grizzlies want to advance. It could be that Memphis is playing possum with the Blazers just a little bit here, and if that’s the case I am all over the Grizzlies here in the opening round.
The Grizzlies won all four regular season matchups against the Blazers, and that was not a fluke. The Blazers do not matchup well against the Grizzlies, because their strengths on offense are exactly Memphis’ defensive strengths. Memphis also finished the regular season 4-1 ATS despite the injuries, and they are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. For your NBA pick, lay the points with Memphis tonight.
