NBA Picks: Wizards vs. Clippers
Not many have won or covered this season when in Nugget land. So, after their big road win, will Washington have enough to cover another double-digit spread? Privilege
Washington healthy at last
While John Wall is still coming off the bench and getting his legs back under him, it was the Bradley Beal show last night in Denver, as no one had an answer for the rookie shooting guard. Beal dropped 23 points, and I’m starting to wonder why I ever doubted him. It was just because of Washington’s horrible draft history, but the backcourt in Washington looks to be set for the next 10 years.
Six Wizards players scored in double figures, including 14 from Wall in 26 minutes off the bench. This will be Wall’s first back to back game since coming back from injury, and after playing 26 minutes last night, I’m not sure how much the Wiz’s trainers and coaches will want to put on him. There is a shot he sits altogether, which we have seen some of this season when it comes to young stars coming back from injury. The back to back is rough on anyone let alone a guy who had surgery on his knee about 4 months ago.
The Wizards also just got back Jordan Crawford last night, and he added in 8 points in 17 minutes. Will Washington have a hangover from last night, or will they continue their momentum into tonight against the Clippers?
Clippers hanging strong
Chris Paul has missed the Clippers last three games with a bruised right kneecap, but LA has kept on winning. The Clippers won all three games so far without him, and all of them were on the road against solid teams. Tonight against the Wizards might be the game he comes back as well. No official word has been released just yet, but he was a game time decision in their last game, so he is close. I imagine he’ll be back on the court at home tonight to face the Wizards.
Tonight’s NBA Odds for this one favor the Clippers by -12 ½, with a total of just under 200 points at 197. The Wizards covered a +10 spread last night by winning outright, so the Clippers need to be on their guard. The Wizards have been really good ATS recently, winning eight of their last ten games ATS. Will that slow down tonight?
The Sharp Pick
I really want to fade the Clippers with this pick, but with the uncertainty of Paul, and the way Washington has been playing recently, I can’t recommend it. The only way I would recommend the Clippers laying so many points is if Paul is definitely playing. Also, if word comes out that Wall might not play very much off the back to back, that would sway me as well.
As it stands now however, my NBA free pick iswith the Clippers on the first half point spread. A solid formula for success is fading teams in the first half who played the night before, and that’s exactly what I’m doing here. The spread looks like a wash without further information on statuses, and while I do slightly like the total; I think that is risky as well.
