Let’s take a look at some of the West’s best teams, and see who is a tail and who is a fade heading down the stretch run of the NBA season.

NBA Western Conference power rankings update

We have only around 25 games for each team left in the regular season, which means our window for cashing our NBA Picks is growing slimmer by the day.

  1. San Antonio Spurs (45-14 SU, 32-25-2 ATS, 1st in West standings)

It’s been two weeks since my last power rankings, and the Spurs have not faired well ATS since that time. San Antonio has gone 2-5 ATS over their last seven games, and their immaculate record of covering is starting to come to an end. That hasn’t deterred them from having the most wins and fewest losses SU of any team in the NBA right now. San Antonio continues to be my pick to win the West and probably end up facing the Heat because as you read in my breakdown of the Eastern Conference, there looks to be no challengers for Miami.

  1. Oklahoma City Thunder (42-15 SU, 33-21-3 ATS, 2nd in West standings)

The Thunder are back in the hunt, but they are still two games back of the Spurs for the top spot out West. They have gone 3-2 ATS since we last talked, and while other teams are starting to fade away ATS, the Thunder are continuing to dominate teams into getting the cover. If OKC can find their consistent scoring off the bench, I think they have a shot at knocking out the Spurs again. However, the lack of James Harden has hurt them, and coming down the stretch, they will be tired, and it might be time to fade them sooner than later.

  1. Los Angeles Clippers (42-18 SU, 34-26 ATS, 3rd in West standings)

LA is finally healthy and we are back to talking about how good they are, and how they could win the West, I’m still thinking the Thunder, Spurs and even the Grizzlies have a better shot at winning the West, but in now way am I writing off the Clippers. They are above Memphis in my power rankings aren’t they? LA still needs to iron out some things, but they are definitely back from a per-game ATS standpoint. The Clippers have gone 4-1 ATS since my last power rankings update.

  1. Memphis Grizzlies (38-18 SU, 32-23-1 ATS, 4th in West standings)

Rounding out the top four is none other than the aforementioned Grizzlies. Memphis has a big game Friday night against the Heat, and as I talked about with Peter in our video, I think Memphis has the best value in the future odds to win it all and to win the west. They are 15/1 and even higher to just win the west, and although I do think there are three better teams than them out west, that doesn’t mean the best team always wins. Like in most sports, the postseason is crazy, and after the first round out west, seeds aren’t going to matter very much in a seven game series. Memphis has the best defense in the NBA, and as high as 17/1 to win the west is incredible to me. The Thunder and Spurs are less than 2/1, while the Clippers are 4.5/1. Even the Lakers are still favored higher than the Grizzlies!
