The second half of the NBA season is set to begin, and we have plenty of action on this evening. Even though I was in a slump heading into the All Star Break, the rest has helped me as well, so let’s see if I can right the ship and get back on the winning track.
How have the NBA Championship odds changed as we hit the halfway point?
We were on the plus side of things for the first half if you tailed me, so let’s see if I can continue that tonight, as I have two free picks to add to your betting ticket.
Grizzlies vs. Raptors
Both of these teams played last night, the Grizzlies were in Detroit last night, while the Raptors played in Washington. Both teams got road wins last night, so what will that make for tonight?
The Raptors are favored in this one at -1 ½, with a total of 187. This will be Rudy Gay’s first chance to play against his old team since he got traded earlier this month, and despite playing last night, I think that both he and the Raptors will be ready.
After the break last week, and combined with the fact that both teams had to travel, I believe that a play on the total will hold the best value, and the ‘Under’ is looking mighty tempting.
Normally when handicapping teams coming off back to backs, I like to pick the over, but the All Star Break should have given these guys some time to recover, making it a little easier for defense to come out tonight. Eight of the last nine times these two have met in Toronto, the total has gone under. Plus, teams seem to play awful when they go north of the border this season.
My Pick: UNDER 187
Pistons vs. Bobcats
Tonight’s most undesirable game is likely the matchup between the Bobcats the Pistons, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any value to be had. The NBA odds makers have opened the Bobcats as a +3 home underdog, with a total of 195.
In most of their back to back games this season, the Bobcats have scored more points and played worse defense on the second night of a back to back than the first. On top of that, 25 teams have made the trip into Charlotte this season, and 15 of them have scored at least 100 points on the Bobcats.
With the Pistons’ new look coming into tonight’s game, I doubt they will have trouble scoring either, despite being on the back to back. Unlike the game above, where the two teams will try and slow down as much as possible, both of these squads will want to run tonight.
The total in this one opened at 198, but it is going the wrong way, so add the 'Over' to your NBA picks while we have 195 at our disposal. The over has cashed in five of the last six meetings between these two, and four of the last five times they have played in Charlotte.
My Pick: OVER 195[gameodds]5/218897/43/us[/gameodds]
