NBA Picks: Warriors vs. Spurs Game 1
This will be an even tougher task than knocking out the 3rd seeded Nuggets, but the Warriors are uniquely equipped to give the Spurs a run for their money. So here in Game 1, will the Warriors be up to the task of covering a lofty spread, or will the Spurs take care of business after being very well rested?
The Spurs haven’t played a real basketball game in over a week, and for most teams that is a death sentence, but for the banged up and older Spurs, it was a Godsend. With San Antonio well rested for this game, the NBA odds have them as huge -8 ½ favorites in Game 1, with a total of right at 201 points.
While the Warriors surely have the best player in the series right now in Steph Curry, I’m afraid young Curry’s might will be no match for a rested and geared up Spurs team. Now with Russell Westbrook out for the Thunder, that all but seals away their fate either to Memphis in this round or the Spurs in the next. San Antonio has become the clear favorites to advance and play the Heat now, and they are not going to let the Warriors stand in their way.
The Spurs’ split their season series with the Warriors 2-2, but San Antonio rested in one of those games. They won both in San Antonio and furthermore, the Spurs have won five straight games against the Warriors when playing in San Antonio. They have also won eight of their last ten meetings SU and overall with the Warriors.
In the playoffs, I’ll go with the rested team in most cases. The Spurs will have a defensive plan for Curry and even if he goes off, the Spurs won’t let anyone else hurt them and get the win easily. I’m seeing a double digit win for the Spurs, even though I fully expect the Warriors to stick around for most of the game.
My Pick: Spurs -8 ½ for your NBA picks
