Golden State Warriors In Control
Golden State Warriors took a commanding 3-0 lead over the Houston Rockets in game 3 of the series, all while coming through as the +105 underdogs in NBA odds markets to win straight up. The manner in which they won, though, should be a concern for the Houston Rockets. The Warriors came into town with a verve and swagger befitting of an NBA Finals favourite and mercilessly crushed the Rockets 115-80, in the process making a mockery of the 1.5-point spread bookies rolled out for the game. It wasn't close at all.
Stephen Curry upped his game in this series considerably. Nowhere was this more apparent than in game 3 as he totted up 40 points, five rebounds and seven assists en route to the bruising road win. Where the Warriors also can be contented is the bench. The stable of players they have at their disposal have all risen to the challenge, making Curry's job all the more easier as he looks to lead the Warriors to the NBA Finals.
The same can't be said of the Houston Rockets. So heavily do they depend on James Harden that it's starting to show. Great as he is, he simply can't do it without an adequate supporting cast. That's been the main problem of the Rockets in the entire NBA playoffs, not just this series.
Rockets Look To Delay Inevitable?
The Houston Rockets find themselves in the proverbial NBA sinkhole. Down 0-3 to the Warriors and on the verge of going out of the NBA playoffs. No team has come back from 0-3 down to win a series.
Just because something has never been done before doesn't mean it never will be. However, one has to assume that that NBA trend is going to remain intact here. Given how formidable the Warriors have been in this series, the Rockets would appear to be no hopers. Simply put it would take a monumental effort to wrestle this series now out of Golden State's firm grip.
This doesn't mean that the Rockets don't win at least one game. They could notch one for pride tonight, if only to give their fans something to cheer about. You can back a home win by the Rockets at +170 NBA odds at Bet365. Of course, we can all agree that it would be just a futile win to delay the inevitable. Because a Warriors series win looks as sure as the sun is to rise the next morning.
NBA Betting Verdict
We thought the Rockets might make this a more competitive series by taking game 3. Well, they didn't. The Warriors took the overwhelming victory and put paid on our NBA picks. It happens to the best of us.
So, what do we do now? Do we back the home underdogs to win game 4 at +170 NBA picks? There's something in the notion of a pride win that appeals to our senses, with the Warriors then closing the series at home in game 5. But that seems to risky of a play based on how game 3 went down. If it had been a close one, then maybe. As it was, the Rockets have to be deflated, discouraged and a bit disheartened. What's more, knowing that no team has ever climbed out of a 0-3 hole must weigh heavily on their shoulders.
By contrast, the Warriors have the momentum right now, which makes them the justifiable road faves at -200 NBA odds and the 5-point faves against the spread. The way they've been playing, we just can't bet against them this time. They've been focused, determined and resilient and they look ready and eager to punch their ticket to the NBA Finals.
