Short slates translate into tight NBA betting lines, so let's make sure we are extra careful with our picks for tonight. Which two plays stand out the most for our NBA picks.

Chicago Bulls vs. Washington Wizards

Tonight's meeting between Chicago and Washington is not as cut and dry as you may think. The Bulls are far better in terms of overall record, but there's a reason that the NBA odds makers have made them the underdogs tonight.

Right now the Wizards are favored by 1.5 points at the sportsbooks, while the O/U can be found at either 185.5 or 186.

We like Washington to cover the small number at home, where they've been cashing spreads for backers left and right.

Since February 4th, the Wizards have gone 16-10 SU, with the return of John Wall making even more of a difference than many could have predicted. Wall has been absolutely tremendous lately, averaging 24.6 PPG, 8.4 APG, and 5.0 RPG over his last 10 games.

Washington has been a force to be reckoned with against the spread all season long, but they've been especially good in that regard at home. They're 23-13-1 ATS overall inside their own building.

Chicago could again be without Joakim Noah (foot) and Marco Belinelli (abdominal), both of whom are listed as questionable. The Bulls may have won four of their last five, but they've gone just 2-6 SU over their last eight on the road.

The Wizards meanwhile have won seven contests in a row, a streak that includes a victory over Memphis (107-94). They've cashed ATS in every single one of those wins, and for tonight's sports picks, we think they'll do so again versus a potentially weak Bulls team.

Dallas Mavericks vs. Los Angeles Lakers

In three head-to-head battles this season, the road team has won each time, with the Lakers winning twice in Dallas and the Mavericks notching a 99-91 win in L.A. back in October.

Tonight the Lakers will try to protect their home floor a little better as three-point favorites on the NBA odds board. They have been successful against Dallas in recent seasons, covering in five of their last six encounters with L.A.

The total is at 206.5, with the OVER having hit in four of L.A.'s past five overall. It's a trend that's also gone 6-1-1 in Dallas' previous eight ahead of tonight's tipoff.

Even with Steve Nash likely out, we think tonight's game has an excellent shot of finishing above the high total. We should see a lot of easy points inside for Dwight Howard against a weak Dallas interior defense and you know Kobe is going to get his points as always, while the Lakers have no one who'll be able to slow down Dirk Nowitzki, who's been tearing it up as of late.

Over their last five, L.A. has given up 108.0 PPG, with the absence of Metta World Peace playing an undeniable role in the team's (lack of) defensive energy and efficiency.

Fortunately for Mike D'Antoni, they run into a Mavericks squad that's allowed 103.7 PPG on the road this season.

With both teams far from elite defensively, we're looking for a high total to be on the board by the end of tonight. Therefore, we think it best to add the OVER to our selection of NBA picks. Best of luck with whatever you decide!
