The Portland Trailblazers visit the New Orleans Pelicans for this 8:05 ET tip in Western Conference basketball.  These two teams have met 3 times this season. See my NBA picks inside.

Portland Trailblazers vs. New Orleans Pelicans
With Portland recording victories of 18 and 4 points, before New Orleans returned the favor with a 26 point rout on this court on December 23rd. Important note from that contest is that Portland lead guard, Lillard, did not make post for that contest. Also of note is that New Orleans’ win snapped a 7-game losing streak to the Blazers.

But as you will read in the analysis below, the Portland Trailblazers are about to continue their dominance over New Orleans in this super-surger vs. towel-tosser deluxe! The line in this game opened with New Orleans as a 2 point favorite. Early money has since pushed that line to Portland (-1), a move with which we clearly agree.

In the first year under Alvin Gentry, the Pelicans have struggled to adjust defensively. In no small part, that has been due to multiple injuries. It now appears that key perimeter players, Gordon and Evans, are lost for the season. In their absence, it appears that New Orleans has tossed the towel. The Pels are on negative runs of 2-9 SU and 2-5 ATS in which they have allowed 115 PPG in their most recent 6 contests.

They would need to leap frog 4 teams to reach the No. 8 playoff spot, a position they trail by 8 ½ games with 15 remaining. Aint gonna happen and New Orleans knows it! This has not been a good role for New Orleans this season, as they are just 9-17 ATS as home favorite to +4.

Betting Analysis
At the other end of the spectrum is a Portland team looking to hold on to the No. 6 playoff spot, but just 1 ½ games away from falling to the No. 9 spot. The Blazers enter on a 6-game road losing streak, including last night’s (118-110) loss at San Antonio. Interesting to note the Blazers had won 6 consecutive road games mostly against lesser opposition before embarking on a slate of road games that included contests at Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Golden St., OKC and San Antonio. Now, with a winnable game, look for Portland with guards Lillard and McCullum at full health to improve upon their record that sees them with a record of 13-8 ATS as single digit road favorite.

In a battle of super-surger vs. towel-tosser in a win situation, I invite you to put the NBA odds in your favor and join me in my NBA pick on Portland tonight.
