There’s only one game on the NBA card on Monday night as the main basketball focus will be on the college basketball championship game. At the pro level, we’ll see the Trail Blazers visit Brooklyn and find themselves as a road dog on the NBA betting lines.

The Portland Trail Blazers Can Win Because…
They feast on losing teams. The Trail Blazers have had their fair share of issues against teams above .500 this season but they’ve had almost no problems beating up on the NBA’s weaklings. Brooklyn can be filed in the latter class as they have just 35 wins so far. The Trail Blazers are 24-19 against teams with a winning record this year, which means they are 26-7 against teams below .500. And it’s worth mentioning that the Nets are just 9-27 against teams with a winning record.

Brooklyn has been hot of late but they’ve mostly beaten laggards. They have wins against the injury-ravaged Raptors, the Knicks, Pacers, Lakers, Hornets and Bucks, and are currently listed as favorites on the NBA odds. That’s not exactly murderer’s row. And when they faced a good team like Atlanta as did on Saturday, they were crushed 131-99. This game is still manageable for Portland even though they are resting a number of key players.

Here's another capper's take on tonight's Blazers vs. Nets matchup

The Brooklyn Nets Can Win Because…
They’ve been playing well down the stretch of the season. Brooklyn is coming off an ugly loss but prior to that, they had won six straight games. Everything seems to be coming together for them as they make a playoff push. Are they going to be a real threat to upset anyone in the first round of the playoffs? Probably not. Are they going to be a decent option for NBA betting cappers for the final week of action? Quite likely.

Brooklyn’s offense has been cooking of late as they’ve averaged 107.1 points per game over their last 10. Deron Williams has had a resurgence of sorts as he’s scored 26 and 31 in separate games earlier this month. If he’s going to keep that up, Brooklyn is going to win tonight and they’re surely going to the playoffs.

The other major factor here is that Portland is resting a number of key players tonight. LaMarcus Aldridge, Nicolas Batum and Chris Kaman are all out tonight. That gives the Nets a huge boost. They should be able to take down a short-handed Trail Blazers team – especially at home.

The Trail Blazers aren’t fully waving the white flag in this one, but it sure looks like it. The Trail Blazers are dead-last in the NBA in terms of bench scoring, averaging just 23.6 per game. And now they are going to thin that bench out by resting Aldridge, Batum and Kaman, and expect to win on the road against a streaking Nets team. Unlikely. Unless Damian Lillard goes absolutely bananas tonight to the tune of at least 35 or 40, the Trail Blazers probably aren’t winning this game. Take the Nets to win and cover in this spot with your NBA picks.
