NBA Picks: Top Totals Games For Sunday's Short Slate

Sunday, April 24, 2016 3:42 PM GMT

We’re back with another round of top totals to bet in the NBA playoffs. Find out where we’re lining our NBA picks as we weigh in on the top favorites Warriors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers.

Top Totals of the Night, Saturday Recap
We had a great night with our NBA picks on Saturday going 2-0 with our recommended tips. The Oklahoma City Thunder beat Dallas Mavericks 119-108 to crack the 203.5-point total trading and cash for us on the recommended NBA pick to go OVER the total. Meanwhile, the Portland Trailblazers edged the Los Angeles Clippers 96-88 to come through for their backers as the nominal home underdogs and, in turn, cash for us on the recommended NBA pick to go UNDER 207.5.

In two instalments of this column, we’ve gone 3-1 with our NBA picks. So let’s get cracking with Sunday’s choice bets to spot.

Record: 3-1

Golden State Warriors vs. Houston Rockets
Series 2-1 to GS Warriors
The Houston Rockets got back into the series with a 97-96 win over the Golden State Warriors on Thursday Night, coming through for their backers and covering as the +3.5 home underdogs. The Rockets will be looking to make it a real dogfight of a series tonight in Houston and send it back to Oakland all knotted up. Curiously, the market isn’t buying what they are selling. In fact, the Rockets go into the game as bigger underdogs on the NBA odds board than they were three nights ago.

Odds makers opened the line on 7-points with the Warriors to the good on the road. Since open doors, the line has moved up to 9 or 9.5-points depending on your sportsbook of choice, moving in accordance to the volume of bets coming down the wire towards the defending champions Golden State Warriors. As it is, they have the lion’s share of the market with 65.3% of bets. The total for the game opened on 216-points and, just as the spread, it’s crept up to 218 with most sports betting exchanges, such as Heritage and Bookmaker to name a few. Once again, the OVER gains traction amongst sports bettors with 58.4% of bets.

It’s interesting to note, however, that the UNDER has cashed twice in this series – game 1 went well UNDER the staggering 224.5-point total when the Warriors defeated the Rockets to 104-78 and game 3 went under the 215.5-point total quite dramatically when the Rockets got into the series behind a 97-96 win.

During the regular season, the Warriors swept the series 3-0 over Houston with the total going OVER twice. Over the course of those three games the Warriors averaged 116 points while the Rockets averaged 104-points. It’s no surprise, therefore, that the market opened game 1 of the series as high as 224-points given their head-to-head this term. So far though the series has gone 1-2 for the UNDER with the Warriors averaging 105 points and Rockets averaging 93.7 points.

It’s been an exciting series altogether and there’s a case to be had for going either way on the total, but, the playoffs, usually are a different ball game and based on those trends, the UNDER definitely looks to be the smart play.

Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Detroit Pistons
Series:3-0 CLE Cavaliers

LeBron James and Company look to bring out the brooms tonight and sweep the series with the Detroit Pistons. Up 3-0 in the first round of the playoffs, the Cavaliers are one win away from the next round, proving in no uncertain terms that the regular season head-to-head is a moot point (Pistons took the series 3-1). The Cavaliers’ Big Three weren’t all fit for those games, which played a hand in how the series evolved. In any event, this is where it counts most and, so far, the Cavaliers are living up to the hype and billing.

It’s no surprise, therefore, the Cavaliers have this game cornered on the NBA odds board. In fact, the market is unanimous about this game, pricing the Cavs as 6-point road favourites and hanging the total on 197.5-to 198-points. Public betting trends reveal a distinct lean towards the UNDER with 57.8% of bets according to consensus betting polls.

After an opening game that cracked the 200-point total behind a 106-101 win in Cleveland, the ensuing games went UNDER: game 2 cashed UNDER 202.0 when the Cavs won 107-90 and game 3 cashed on the UNDER 200.5 behind a 101-91 win in Detroit. Cavs are averaging 104.7 points in this series while the Pistons are averaging 94 points. If those NBA betting trends hold true, it’s a good case for another UNDER bet on your NBA picks in this matchup.
