NBA Picks for Thursday Night

Let’s see where the value lies in both these games NBA betting odds.

Update:

The Lakers done me wrong again last night as I felt confident they were going to keep their winning streak alive while the Hawks were going to continue to tumble.  At the time of the article I was able to “take advantage” of a very favorable line set by the NBA oddsmakers and get the boys from LA at a pick.  The line shot up to Lakers -4 in some shops and I felt pretty darn smart…until the Lakers fell perilously behind in the 1st half but mounted a furious rally after halftime.  It was not to be as LA ultimately bowed 96-92 and it cost us four big units.

Dallas Mavericks (30-33 SU, 36-26-1 ATS) vs. San Antonio Spurs (49-16 SU, 36-27-2)

The Mavs have strung together four consecutive victories and have taken four of their last five games as they wrap up a four game road trip in San Antonio this evening.  The Mavs are desperate to walk out of the AT&T Center with a win as they are currently 3 ½ games behind the Lakers for the final playoff seed.

While Dallas was polishing off the Bucks in Milwaukee Tuesday night the Spurs were getting stunned by the lowly T’Wolves as 8 ½ point road favorites.  It was the second disappointing effort in their last three games as San Antonio was shocked by the Trailblazers 136-106 on Friday night as 11 ½ point home chalk.  They then rebounded with a huge win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night with a 105-93 victory but stunningly then fell to Minnesota.

The Pick:

Tony Parker has been sidelined but may be back on Thursday night while Tim Duncan and Kawhi Leonard have battled balky knees.  Nevertheless, they rose to the occasion against their fiercest rival, Kevin Durant and the Thunder so this team is capable of beating virtually any team with ease.  In their three prior victories this season they have defeated the Mavs by an average of 23 points and we see another one coming their way if Parker is back.  But if not….?

New York Knicks (38-24 SU, 31-31 ATS) vs. Portland Trailblazers (29-34 SU, 29-32-2 ATS)

Carmelo Anthony is back on the shelf after his knee would not allow him to continue in the Knicks 117-94 loss to Denver last night.  The Knicks have gotten blown out of the building in their last two efforts (ok, wrong word), losing 92-63 to Golden State on Monday night and following that up with the debacle in Denver.

The Blazers have lost twice to Memphis and once to New Orleans.  None of those losses were blowouts and sandwiched in between was a shocking victory over Western Conference power, the San Antonio Spurs.

The Pick:

The Knicks are injured and Portland has won 9 of 11 in this series when the teams play at the Rose Garden.  Portland has also averaged almost 6 points per game above their average when playing at home over the last 10 games where they have gone 7-3 with those three losses by a combined 11 points.
